Chapter 603 At the End of His Rope
Ava burst into the room on the third floor, eyes wide. "Did you hear? Yancy's in deep trouble."
Frank was deep into his game, barely glancing up. "Huh? What happened to him?"
"Did you hear any noise downstairs around midnight?" Ava clutched her chest, still freaked out.
Frank, who could sleep through a hurricane, hadn't heard a thing.
But Ava had woken up last night. She went to knock on Yancy's door in her PJs, only to get shooed away. Unable to sleep, she heard the thump of something pounding on the floor and the clink of broken glass , with shouts from downstairs about an hour later.
Ava thought the folks downstairs were just having a wild time.
So she shut the window.
But when she went down today, it was a total disaster.
Tables and chairs were flipped over, and broken glass from bottles was all over the floor.
There was even blood on the ground.
The door to the Blue Bar was shut tight, with a sign outside saying it was closed for business.
Ava was freaked out by the scene. Her first thought was that there had been a fight, and after asking around, she found out that Yancy had been stabbed.
Frank, still glued to his game with his headphones on, hadn't heard a thing and just mumbled a response.
Ava yanked off his headphones. "I said Yancy got stabbed around midnight."
Frank finally snapped out of it. "What? Yancy got stabbed? What the hell happened?"
Ava shook her head, still scared. "Do you think it has anything to do with you?"
Frank said, "What does it have to do with me? Don't start with that nonsense."
Ava plopped down next to Frank. "I'm not talking nonsense. The Blue Bar's been here for years without any trouble. A lot of people respect Yancy. And now someone dares to stab him? This happened right after we showed up. And Alice has been blowing up your phone. I heard several groups of people were asking about you."
Frank started sweating bullets. He stood up, thinking about his video calls with Alice and the times he had hooked up with her. Now that Alice was about to become Mrs. Howard, was she out for revenge or trying to shut him up?
And Yancy had helped him because of that video.
Those groups of people looking for him seemed to be coming for the video.
Frank said anxiously, "What do we do, Ava? Is it safe here? Do you think they're after me?"
Ava was also scared. "Did you answer Alice's calls?"
Frank replied, "No, I didn't dare to. If Alice is looking for me because of this, what if she finds out where I am and seeks revenge?"
Ava said, "Frank, Yancy is in the hospital, and we don't know if he'll make it. Downstairs is a mess, and there's blood everywhere. It's terrifying. Frank, I'm really scared. I don't think it's safe here. Yancy being stabbed means they've found this place, right? Let's go!"
Frank immediately agreed, "Yeah, let's get outta here!"
It wasn't safe here.
Ava and Frank quickly packed some things. Frank hadn't brought much when he moved in, but Ava had a suitcase full of makeup, bags, and clothes. She hurriedly stuffed everything in, and a bottle of toner fell and shattered on the floor. Ava stomped her foot in frustration but didn't dare linger. She finished packing the suitcase.
Ava asked, "Where should we go?"
At this moment, Frank was at his wit's end.
He didn't have many relatives or friends to turn to.
Just then, his phone suddenly rang.
Frank looked at the unfamiliar number, hesitating.
