Chapter 821 Destroying the Evidence
Carlos plopped down on the couch and said, "Eudora, just hang tight for a few more days. Once this blows over, I'll let your son go."
Eudora had no choice but to comply.
She had worked her tail off for half her life to become the hospital's vice president, always doing her job right and never pulling stunts like this. But for her son, she lied, bending her medical ethics for the first time.
Eudora had only one son, and he was about to turn 18.
If anything horrible happened, his future would be toast.
Carlos left the office. As he walked past the emergency room, he glanced at the nearby ward where Curtis, Avery, and Melissa were standing guard.
Alice had gone hardcore, losing so much blood as to make herself look super pale.
Carlos went home and filled John in on the situation.
John already knew about Alice's coma and the lost baby. He hadn't expected his own son and Alice to be in on it together, keeping him in the dark.
John reached out and slapped Carlos hard across the face. "Ridiculous!"
Carlos stumbled back a couple of steps from the slap.
John didn't hold back his slap at all, and Carlos felt his ear burning.
He heard John bellow, "Kneel down!"
Carlos reluctantly dropped to his knees.
Carlos didn't get what he did wrong. The plan hadn't been exposed, and even if it was, he could just blame Alice and clear himself. He didn't understand why John was so mad.
To John, Carlos was a total failure!
John looked at his disappointing son and saw the defiance in his eyes. He sighed, "Do you know how much trouble you've caused? Do you think your plan was foolproof? The chandelier stuff you and Alice pulled—do you think Adrian didn't catch on? Do you think Adrian really believes the kid is his? Do you think Adrian's an idiot? He just hasn't made a move yet. In fact, Adrian knows everything you did, but I destroyed the evidence beforehand. So Adrian doesn't have direct proof to nail you. Otherwise, do you think you'd still be here?"
Carlos turned pale. "How is that possible?"
John continued, "You're too naive. After all these years by my side, you've learned nothing but how to indulge in debauchery and play these childish games with Alice. You think your actions were flawless, but Adrian saw through your immature behavior long ago. Adrian had already traced it back to you, you fool. Transfer records don't lie. If this gets out, I can't save you."
Carlos trembled with fear. "Dad, you have to help me."
"Help you? You idiot, you're good for nothing but a troublemaker." John was so mad that the veins on his forehead bulged. He sat on the couch and kicked the coffee table, making it wobble.
Carlos crawled over on his knees. "Dad, did Adrian really trace it back to me? I was super careful."
John was so angry he wanted to slap him again. But he had only this one son, so he held back.
John was also surprised that after Adrian found out, he hadn't blown the whole thing wide open.
