Chapter 812 Loving Her More Than Imagined
Lauchelle said, "That girl was really sweet and gentle, the perfect wife. We had two kids, and I love them to bits. But I can't shake off this guilt I feel towards my wife."
After hearing Lauchelle's story, Natalie felt she couldn't sign the papers. Even though she loved the place and it was a gift from Adrian, she didn't want to take away Lauchelle's cherished memories.
"Lauchelle, your place is absolutely stunning," she said, genuinely.
There was this 150-foot-long path lined with majestic sycamore trees, which clearly weren't native and must've been brought in from somewhere else.
Piecing together what Lauchelle had said, Natalie figured he had recreated the scene of his first meeting with his first love here.
She hadn't expected Lauchelle to be such a sentimental man, which merited her kindness.
Natalie said, "You've put your heart and soul into this place. I can't take it, and I can't sign the papers. I know you might not really want to sell it to Adrian, but maybe you're scared of his power and tactics. If Adrian pressured you into selling, don't worry. I'll talk to him."
Lauchelle smiled and shook his head. "No, it's not like that. I did make a bet with Adrian and lost, but now I genuinely want to give this place to you. I can see you love it here, and this estate seems to love you too. This place, filled with my memories and efforts, should go to someone I trust, someone who truly appreciates it, not just for its fame."
Natalie was stunned.
Lauchelle continued, his voice tinged with weariness, "Even though I love it here, I don't want to live here anymore. This place holds memories of her and me, but those memories are too heavy. I come here for a month every year, and during that time, I feel incredibly uncomfortable. Those beautiful scenes replay in my mind, and while I cherish them, they also bring me great pain. Because even though the memories are beautiful, the ending is harsh. I can't keep facing such a cruel ending over and over again."
He paused for a second and added, "A few years ago, I was diagnosed with some heart disease, and my wife has been taking care of me so well. Our marriage was arranged by our families, and at first, I didn't like her, maybe even resented her a bit, but her gentleness gradually changed me. I feel this mounting guilty towards her. Since I married her, it became a responsibility. Now that I have a wonderful family, it's time to let go of these memories."
Natalie got where Lauchelle was coming from.
Memories might be beautiful, but the ending was harsh. Reliving harsh memories over and over would only be worse to him.
Lauchelle looked at Natalie and said, "Your boyfriend loves you a lot. More than you think. You're a girl who deserves to be loved. I wish you both the best and hope you have a happy ending."
Natalie was slightly stunned at the sudden blessings.
Could Adrian really love Natalie more than she thought?
Natalie pressed her lips together, a hint of disbelief in her eyes.
Lauchelle smiled. "Maybe Mr. Howard is a man who doesn't show his emotions easily, so his love might not seem that deep. But in his veins, your name must be flowing."
