Chapter 047 Miscarriage
Avery Reed 's car was a shadow in the night, hot on the trail of the taxi ahead. Her bodyguard's voice broke the silence, "Mrs. Cullen, she's en route to Riverside Villa."
A surge of unease rippled through Avery. She thought, "This is disastrous. If Adrian learns of Alice's predicament and Natalie's pregnancy, it could spell the end for the Cullen family."
Alice was on the cusp of becoming Adrian's fiancée, and now this interloper threatened to snatch it all away! In their world, lineage mattered, but the issue of children was an entirely different ball game.
Avery's eyes flickered rapidly, a storm of thoughts brewing behind them. A sly grin slowly crept onto her face. She dialed Natalie's number, but she didn't answer. Unfazed and devoid of anger, Avery composed a text message.
"I'm aware of your search for a kidney donor for your mother. I can assist. Agree to terminate the pregnancy, keep this our secret, and your mother will be in surgery by week's end."
Avery was confident Natalie would acquiesce. After all, her mother Rosalie's life was her most precious treasure.
Upon reading the message, Natalie's body began to tremble uncontrollably. Her eyes squeezed shut, her fists clenched so tightly that her teeth nearly broke skin. She silently urged the car to move faster.
Suddenly, her eyes flew open, tears cascading down her cheeks. Her voice was a hoarse whisper, "Stop the car."
"But Miss, we're almost at Riverside Villa. Just two more lights," the driver protested.
Natalie offered a bitter smile. "Never mind," she responded, tears tracing the bridge of her nose.
She exited the cab, standing alone under the harsh glow of the streetlights. Yet, she felt consumed by darkness, her eyes dull and devoid of life.
Returning to the private clinic, she found the atmosphere heavy with tension. For Natalie, securing a kidney donor was her only lifeline, but she had no hope of finding a match on her own. Yet, she harbored doubts about Avery.
Her face hardened, she demanded, "I need your signature and a video promise to secure a kidney within a week and arrange the surgery for my mother."
Avery shrugged nonchalantly, "Sure."
She promptly signed the documents and recorded the video. Then, dialing a number, he said, "I need a favor. A friend of mine needs a kidney. I'm hoping you can find one fast."
The voice on the other end reassured, "Don't worry, I’ll find a matching kidney as soon as possible. Unless it's a rare blood type, I'll definitely have one in three days."
Avery turned to Natalie, "You heard that right? Are we good now?"
Defeated, Natalie signed the paperwork and lay back on the operating table, her eyes closing.
Beyond the sterile white curtains, Avery snorted coldly, "Doctor, there's no need for anesthesia. Since she's so attached to her child, let them spend a few more seconds together, to feel the pain of parting."
The doctor was taken aback, "How could she possibly endure such pain, Mrs. Cullen, please don't joke."
Avery retorted contemptuously, "I'm not joking. I've signed the paperwork and paid the fees; you'll do as I say!"
The female doctor entered the rudimentary operating room. She offered a reassuring smile to Natalie, who lay pale and dim-eyed on the table. "Don't worry, I'm very skilled. Unless something extraordinary happens, there won't be any harm done to your body. Just try to relax," she soothed.
A single tear escaped from the corner of Natalie's eye.
