Chapter 71 A Taste of Humiliation

"Come on! Natalie is here. She's Dr. Kamel's girlfriend!"

Everyone at the table laughed happily.

"Dr. Kamel, you must invite us to dine with Natalie," a voice from the crowd proposed."Absolutely, it's no problem," Jagger responded promptly, the corners of his mouth lifting in a smile.Brenda clapped her hands in delight, "Perfect! Let's plan for next week. Dr. Kamel, you can host the entire department."Jagger paused awhile before saying, "Next week is my daughter's birthday.""Birthday? Then bring your daughter along," Brenda suggested, her eyes twinkling with excitement. In a private room, people were engrossed in song and card games. However, it was Jagger and Natalie's corner that buzzed with the most life. Laughter and chatter filled the air around them.Traylor, however, was not in the mood for cards. The female doctors who were friendly with Traylor remained silent, aware of the influence of Traylor's mother, the dean, Patricia.Tiffany hesitated before speaking, "Traylor, we have many eligible bachelors in our hospital. Dr. Smith from cardiology is quite impressive. He's young, handsome, and recently published an academic paper."Traylor raised an eyebrow, "And what do you think of me? Is there anyone worthy of my affection?"She had chased after Jagger for years, only to watch him choose someone else. The humiliation was unbearable. At eleven o'clock that night, the rain began to fall.Jagger was driving Natalie home.During the drive, Natalie teased, "Dr. Kamel, does Traylor like you?"She had noticed a strong antagonism in Traylor's eyes.No one would order a freshly prepared fruit platter.Except Traylor, who always ordered four portions.Jagger smiled, skillfully changing the subject, "I owe you one today."Natalie, growing more comfortable with Jagger, dared to joke, "Of course, I'm not a chef. My hands are sore from preparing four fruit salads."Jagger laughed, parking the car on the side of the road, "Wait here."Moments later, he returned, handing Natalie a warm cup of coffee.Natalie cradled the cup in her hands, the warmth seeping into her palms. She took a sip, the sweet taste of coffee filling her mouth, the aroma permeating the air."It's really delicious," Natalie murmured, her eyes welling up unexpectedly, "This is the first time I've had coffee this year."She smiled, her eyes curving into crescents, "It tastes so good. No wonder so many people love coffee."That year, Rosalie's condition had worsened.Natalie had taken care of Rosalie, working tirelessly to save money for her medical expenses, and had stopped spending on herself.Coffee, a luxury costing a few dollars per cup, was something she rarely indulged in.If not for Jagger buying her coffee, she might have forgotten its taste.Jagger turned to look at her, his eyes always carrying a hint of a smile. A thought crossed his mind, 'If Natalie really became my girlfriend, it would be quite pleasant.'"Natalie," he called.Natalie turned to him, her eyes brighter than the stars, as if waiting for him to continue."Natalie, thank you for tonight," Jagger said, swallowing the words he had initially intended to say. Perhaps he lacked the courage.Meanwhile, Adrian had arrived at the Cullen Villa."Adrian, the rain is getting heavier. You should stay here tonight," Adrian glanced at the torrential rain outside, his brows furrowing slightly. He had instinctively decided to dine at the Cullen Villa, but the person he had hoped to see was absent. Instead, he was greeted by the heavy rain.Natalie hadn't returned yet, even at this late hour.
