Chapter 836 Predicting Revenue from Ticket Sales

Chris leaned back and said, "Back in the day, I wasn't even an assistant director, just a director's assistant. I ditched this story because I thought it was too childish. It was just the usual hard- work-leads-to-success and failure-is-the-mother-of-success stuff."

His voice got a bit rough. "I was so full of myself back then. I rewrote the story, kept the same female lead and characters, but threw in more drama. She met a guy who truly loved her, they lived happily ever after, she donated to charity, built roads and bridges, and forgave her family. I thought it was perfect."

"Then I met Director Esme, worked with her for two years, and eventually became her assistant director. I've been in that role ever since. When I revisited this story, I went back to the original version with a few tweaks."

"I always wanted to direct my own film, but I couldn't get any investors on board. They thought my script was a flop waiting to happen, with low box office potential and no return on investment. The entertainment industry isn't a charity. To get funding, I had to show there was money to be made or at least minimal risk. So many films and TV shows get big investments and still bomb."

Chris turned to Natalie. "Thanks."

Natalie raised an eyebrow.

Chris continued, "When I picked you as the female lead, I had my reasons. First, you were perfect for the role. Second, I needed investment from Dynamic Entertainment Media. Without it, this film wouldn't have happened."

To be honest, if it wasn't Natalie, Chris would have picked anyone willing to invest because he was desperate to make his film.

Natalie wasn't shocked or fake about it. "It's a win-win. I should thank you, too. Thanks for making this film happen and for helping me get to where I am today."

Chris looked at her. "You're not mad?"

He thought she would.

Natalie shook her head. "Why would I be mad? I'm not that kind of person. Chris, is this what's been bugging you?"

"Not entirely," Chris admitted. "I didn't want to lose you as a friend, but I felt you should know. For this film, I would've given the role to anyone willing to invest."

"That's just how it is, right? The world doesn't revolve around me. Let's head inside; it's freezing out here. Don't want you catching a cold." Natalie said, giving Chris a playful punch on the shoulder.

As they walked in, the others were already pretty tipsy.

Chris said, "I'll drive them home."

He knew Natalie had a driver waiting outside.

Natalie nodded.

Chris added, "Before this film came out, I predicted its box office. I estimated it would make $2 billion."

Natalie's eyes widened.

Chris said confidently, "Yep, $2 billion. You heard me right."

Natalie had never even dreamed of that. She would've been happy with $200 million.

Chris said, "I know the film market and my film inside out. I've been perfecting this script for seven years, and I think it's flawless. Even before it was released, I had already dreaming about all the awards it could win."
