Chapter 359 Temporary Stay
Natalie was hesitant about telling Rosalie about Raymond. Rosalie's favoritism towards Alice always bugged her, especially since Alice and Avery almost got Rosalie killed, yet Rosalie still treated Alice well.
After saying goodbye to Raymond, Natalie headed to the changing room. Not seeing Susan around, she casually asked, "Where's Susan?"
Denise shrugged. "No idea. Didn't see her yesterday either."
Natalie texted Susan, asking why she hadn't shown up, but got no reply. Susan would usually message even if she had classes. What was up these past two days?
"Denise, did Susan say why she didn't come?" Natalie asked.
"Nope," Denise replied. "I had the afternoon off yesterday and asked her to go shopping, but she didn't come out."
At the Cook family home, Colby returned, and the butler quickly said, "Mr. Colby Cook, you're finally back. Mrs. Cook and Mr. Keith Cook have been waiting."
Colby raised an eyebrow. "What's up?"
"We have a guest. Mr. and Mrs. Cook want you to come over," the butler replied.
"Who?" Colby asked, puzzled.
In the living room, he saw a girl in a light pink dress with long hair and almond-shaped eyes. Keith called out, "Why are you so late? Come over."
Colby walked over. "Dad, Mom, who is this?"
Monica Cook said, "Colby, this is Sophie. She'll be living with us now. Get to know each other."
Colby glanced at Sophie. She stood up, looking uneasy. "Hello," she said softly.
Colby nodded and turned to Monica. "Mom, if there's nothing else, I'll go upstairs."
Monica nodded, knowing Colby's personality. "Alright, you can go up." She then turned to Sophie, "Make yourself at home. If you need anything, just let me know."
Keith added, "Yes, if you need anything, just tell us. I've known your father for years. Now that he's in trouble, I won't stand by. I'll go to the police station tomorrow to see if I can help."
Sophie bit her lip. In just two days, her father's company collapsed, and he faced legal troubles. Her mother was also detained. Keith, a longtime friend of her father, brought her to the Cook family to stay temporarily.
Colby went upstairs and glanced down at the living room. He looked at Sophie's delicate face. Though surprised by her sudden appearance, he didn't really care. So, this was Sophie, Nathan Hoilt's daughter.
He had a vague idea about the Hoilt family's situation. They were in the jewelry business, not very large, but had always collaborated with the Cook family. However, the Hoilt Group had been struggling. Competition forced many of their stores to close, and despite their online success, they've now encountered a major setback.
The Hoilt Group went bankrupt. They couldn't cover the broken capital chain, leading to Nathan's imprisonment and Cynthia Hoilt's detention. Sophie, their only daughter, faced predatory shareholders after the bankruptcy. Keith brought her to the Cook family.
Colby withdrew his gaze. It had nothing to do with him. At most, there was one more person at the dinner table. He rarely came home during the day anyway.
