Chapter 979 Jerry's Threat
Given Natalie's character and integrity, Heather figured it had to be Rosalie who messed up. Otherwise, Natalie wouldn't be so distant from her.
Heather decided she'd check on Rosalie after dinner.
Just then, Natalie's phone rang.
The screen flashed "Jerry" for a good ten seconds, like he wasn't gonna give up until she picked up.
Natalie hesitated for a moment, then answered.
Jerry's anxious voice came through immediately. "Finally! Rosalie's in trouble. She got hit on the head and is in a coma. The doctor said she might end up a vegetable for life."
Natalie frowned. "What did you just say?"
Jerry went on, "Yesterday, when I went to see Rosalie, she was already on the ground, blood everywhere. She'd been hit on the back of her head. They rushed her to the hospital, and she was in surgery all afternoon. She made it, but she hasn't woken up."
Natalie felt a whirlwind of emotions. 'Do I hate Rosalie? Absolutely! If it weren't for her selfishness, swapping me with Alice and stealing 24 years of my life... I've said I'd never see her again. But I'm not heartless, even if forgiving her is tough.'
"How do you know someone hit her?" she asked anxiously.
Jerry replied, "The injury's suspicious. I called the cops. They think it was an attack too. But she lives in a single-story house in an alley with no cameras around. She usually keeps to herself, so it's hard to figure out who went to her place."
Jerry was sitting in the hospital room, looking at Rosalie, now a vegetable hooked up to a ventilator. "Rosalie's had a rough life. She barely survived her illness, and now this. I don't know what beef you have with her, but you need to come see her. You're her only family right now."
Jerry finished, but Natalie didn't respond.
She didn't hang up either.
Jerry pressed on. "Please come see her. Nothing's more important than this. I know you're an actress and busy with movies, but no amount of money can replace your mom. If you lose her, you'll regret it!"
He seemed to grit his teeth. "You're a big star now. If you don't come back, I'll go to the press. I'll tell them you get rich and forget your mom, that you refuse visiting her even when she becomes a vegetable! Let everyone see what kind of person you are!"
Natalie raised her hands and gently rubbed her temples, unfazed by Jerry's threat.
She didn't have the speakerphone on, but the trailer was quiet since it was lunchtime.
Heather, nearby, and Derek, eating alone at the small dining table, heard Jerry's savage voice from the receiver. Derek looked at Natalie, holding his utensils.
Natalie said calmly, "You're right; given Rosalie's condition, her biological daughter should see her. Unfortunately, that's not me."
