Chapter 227 Encountering Danger (Part 1)
Stephanie glanced at Daniel, who was visibly worried about Natalie, and felt a pang of distress. "Mr. Murphy, what if Natalie already went back? Maybe she just didn't tell you."
"Yeah, maybe she did. But now Adrian's involved too."
Daniel pulled out his phone and kept trying to call Natalie, but it wouldn't connect. He tried Adrian next, but no luck there either.
Natalie rubbed her arms, feeling cold and weak. Suddenly, she slipped and fell again.
She was deep in the forest now, where the ground was uneven and littered with broken branches and stones. Every step was a struggle.
She propped herself up with her arms, hissing in pain.
Her palms and knees were badly scraped. She had no idea how many times she'd fallen. She couldn't see the path clearly; her phone only had 19% of its battery left. She didn't dare use the flashlight and could only stumble forward in the dark.
Natalie's legs, arms, and neck were scratched by the tall weeds and branches.
She could barely walk anymore. The sprain in her ankle was getting worse. She found a sturdy tree to lean against and squatted down to rest.
She took out her phone, opened the photo album, and found a picture of her and Rosalie. Tears welled up in her eyes. "Mom, if I can't make it back, you still have Uncle Jerry. He'll take good care of you. Adrian, if there's a next life, may you be born into an ordinary family, or may I have a slightly better background."
She wiped her tears and thought back on many things.
In her mind, she returned to that day when she was lying under Adrian. It was their first meeting, and he asked her name.
She said her name was Alice Cullen.
She remembered the child in her womb, who had appeared accidentally and now had to leave. She couldn't help but cry out loud.
"I'm sorry, baby." For the first time, she felt a deep sense of guilt.
"Adrian, you bastard!"
Suddenly, a familiar, hoarse male voice came from the silent forest. "You have quite the energy for cursing. Looks like you're still alive."
Natalie was stunned and thought, 'Am I hallucinating? How can I hear Adrian's voice?'
Natalie looked up. Her tears instantly fell. Her vision blurred.
Adrian was really there, not far from her, walking towards her step by step.
Adrian approached, his eyes filled with worry. He had been running around searching for her. When he realized Natalie had entered the depths of the forest, he was extremely anxious, not knowing what dangers might be lurking.
His phone had lost its signal in the depths of the forest, so he couldn't contact the outside world.
Seeing Natalie safe, his wildly beating heart finally began to calm down.
He looked at Natalie, her eyes bright and startling. Suddenly, his throat felt choked, and he withdrew the words he wanted to say.
"Let's go." He suppressed all his emotions and lowered his voice.
The light was already dim, and Natalie couldn't see anything clearly. She just looked into Adrian's eyes. She slowly stood up and took a step forward, her foot hurting badly. "Why did you come?"
Adrian said, "If I didn't come, were you planning to feed the snakes here?"
Adrian glanced around and mocked. "I've never seen anyone as foolish as you dare to come in here. Do you know how dangerous it is at night?"
He bent down and examined Natalie's severely swollen ankle. "Can you still walk?"
Natalie bit her lip and nodded.
Adrian frowned. It was obvious she couldn't walk in her current state. He straightened up, and suddenly his pupils contracted. "Watch out!"
