Chapter 383 Breaking the Promise
The girl said, "Miss, let me pay you for the tickets."
"No need, go enjoy the movie. Don't keep your boyfriend waiting." Natalie noticed a boy about ten meters behind the girl, wearing a black hoodie. He looked around the same age as the girl.
The girl smiled, thanked her, and walked back to the boy, who was holding two buckets of popcorn. She took one and turned back to Natalie. "Miss, thanks for the movie. Here's some popcorn as a thank you."
Natalie was surprised but accepted the popcorn.
The girl linked arms with her boyfriend and went into the theater. Natalie sighed, grabbed some popcorn, and took a bite. It was sweet and fragrant. She checked her phone and saw it was almost dead.
Natalie bought a ticket for a comedy and watched it alone.
The comedy was pretty funny, made by new actors and a new production company, but well-done. The plot was full of humor and touching moments. The ending was abrupt but acceptable. After the movie, it was around 9:30 PM. She walked out of the theater, and her phone was dead.
If she had known Adrian wouldn't come, she would have worked tonight and not wasted a night's wages.
Natalie walked out of the cinema, and it started to drizzle.
This morning, Rosalie had reminded her it might rain and to bring an umbrella. Natalie had brought one, and now it was useful.
She took a cab home. She got back early, and Rosalie was surprised. "Natalie, you're back early."
Natalie said, "I swapped shifts with a friend and went shopping."
"Why didn't you buy anything? You should get some new clothes and dress up a bit." Rosalie was on the couch, knitting a scarf. Natalie changed clothes and walked over. "Mom, you've already knitted two. Why are you still knitting?"
Rosalie replied, "These two are for your dad and Ryan. It's getting cold, so I'll send them over."
"This one's for Dad, right? What about Ryan's? Let me knit it," Natalie said, picking out yarn from the basket. "How about a black one?"
Rosalie smiled. "Sure, he'll like it."
Natalie started knitting. She used to know how but was a bit rusty. With Rosalie's help, she relearned it.
Natalie turned on the TV and picked a popular show. The lead actress was Amara, a well-known star. The show was great, from the acting to the directing, art, and script. No wonder it was a hit.
The first four episodes had already hooked the audience.
Natalie knitted while watching. She had done more than half, but her skills were rusty, and it didn't look great. Compared to Rosalie's work, her scarf was much rougher.
"You missed a stitch here," Rosalie said with a smile.
Natalie replied, "But I've already done half. I can't unravel it for one missed stitch. I'll keep this one and knit a new one for Ryan tomorrow."
Thinking of Ryan, Natalie had something to ask Rosalie.
"Mom, did Ryan really pass away back then?" Natalie asked.
Rosalie paused while knitting. "Why are you asking this now?"
