Chapter 224 Who Was It Sold To?

"I'm scared." Who wouldn't be scared in a wild rainforest? A faintly sarcastic smile tugged at Natalie's lips. "Even if I'm scared, I have to try. Three hundred grand might mean nothing to you, but it's life-saving money to me."

Natalie's phone buzzed. She pulled it out and saw Daniel's name. "Hello, Mr. Murphy," she answered.

She didn't notice Adrian's expression darken. He clearly wasn't happy about her talking to Daniel.

"I'm on Line 3. You want to come find me? It's a bit far. Aright," Natalie said.

After hanging up, she went to the lakeside, scooped up some water, and washed her face. She'd been out here all morning, and her face was covered with ash.

Adrian suddenly asked, "Why did you sell it? Did you sell it to Daniel?"

Natalie blinked, thinking she misheard. "What did you say?" If it weren't just the two of them, she'd have doubted her ears.

She glanced around, then focused on Adrian's thin lips. "Sell it? Are you asking who I sold my virginity to? Was it Mr. Murphy? Mr. Howard, aren't you being too nosy? If you really want to know..." She pressed her lips together, thinking. "Give me a hundred grand, and I'll tell you."

Adrian's face darkened. He frowned at her indifferent smile, then turned away, pushing through the waist-high grass with a look of disdain and disappointment.

Natalie watched him go, her eyes dimming, losing the nonchalant look she had earlier. 'Why did I sell it? I didn't want to either. If Avery and the others hadn't pushed me to the brink, I wouldn't have done it.'

Following the map, Natalie found the "treasure" ten minutes later. It was a wooden box with a marked flag. She took the flag, put it in her bag, and slung it over her shoulder, ready to head back.

It was getting late. If she didn't return soon, it would be trouble at night.

Exploring during the day was fine, but it would be really unsafe at night.

Natalie quickened her pace. As she walked, she realized she was off course.

She looked at the dense forest path ahead. She hadn't been here before. Panic set in. She took out her phone and opened the map app. Her phone was out of signal!

Natalie checked the time. It was 4:25 PM. She had to get out within an hour, or she'd be stuck in the dark.

Above her, a helicopter circled. She waved frantically. "Hey, I'm here!"

But the helicopter didn't see her. It circled a few times and then flew away.

Natalie retraced her steps, trying to stay calm. Everything would be fine.

The surroundings were eerily quiet. Besides her, there was no one else—just the sounds of insects and birds.

In such a strange and silent place, those sounds made her even more anxious.

Natalie started running. Her foot slipped, and she fell hard, scraping her palm. No time to bandage it. She checked her phone, and there was no signal, and the battery was down to 32%.

Suddenly, she heard rustling behind her. Natalie's face turned pale. Her voice trembled. "Adrian, Adrian, is that you?"

There was no response.

She didn't dare look back. She stood up, ignoring the scrapes on her legs and hands, and ran forward. This run completely disoriented her in the jungle.

Natalie stopped and looked around.

Everything seemed to spin, like she was in a giant forest maze, unable to find her way. The more she thought about it, the more confused she became.
