Chapter 162 Stanley Died for Him
Jerry suddenly teared up. "Your father was a very upright man, and it was because of his cautious approach that Mr. Cullen appreciated him and took him in as an adopted son. Your father and Curtis had known each other since childhood, and they were like brothers. But Curtis, he's a scoundrel. He clearly knew the consequences of his actions, but he treated you all like this after your father left." Jerry's fists clenched as he spoke, filled with anger.
"Curtis knew that Stanley died for him. It should have been him who died in that car accident initially. Stanley died for him! He knows it in his heart!" Jerry's voice rose a few notches.
"Jerry, please calm down," Natalie said gently.
"Ms. Teeger, I owe your family an apology."
Jerry choked up a bit. With his white hair and red eyes, despite being only in his forties, he looked very frail, appearing as weak as a ninety-year-old.
"Your father had an accident, and it was me who was driving the truck that collided with his car," Jerry confessed.
Natalie's mind went blank.
"After that incident, I went to see your mother, told her what I knew, and then I turned myself in. I spent ten years in prison, haunted by the guilt of taking two lives every day." Jerry had just been released from prison six months ago.
Natalie trembled. "My father and brother..."
"Ms. Teeger, I'm sorry for what I've done." Jerry suddenly knelt before her, tears streaming down his face.
Natalie felt a lump in her throat, unsure of what to say.
"I hate Curtis so much. He was Rosalie's boyfriend, but out of vanity and greed, he abandoned Rosalie to marry Avery. Although Rosalie and Avery are cousins, their family backgrounds are very different. Avery's father is a real estate investor with a large business, unlike Rosalie, whose parents are ordinary people with regular jobs. When Curtis realized that marrying Avery would benefit him more, he broke up with Rosalie," Jerry said.
Natalie's fingers clenched into fists slowly.
Jerry continued, "At that time, I despised Curtis. He was heartless. The Cullen family was also expanding at that time, and they possessed an extensive tapestry of social connections in various aspects, but they also made enemies. They took a business deal from a man named Edward Rodriguez, who threatened to kill Curtis. I felt lucky when Edward approached me, offering money to kill Curtis. As long as I staged an accident with no evidence, he would take care of the aftermaths.
"It seemed reasonable to me at the time. I would get two hundred thousand dollars, get rid of Curtis, and not be held responsible. It sounded perfect, so I agreed immediately."
As Natalie heard this, everything became clear to her.
Her lips trembled, her voice weak. "But the people in that car were my father and brother, not Curtis."
Jerry said regretfully, "Ms. Teeger, I apologize to your family."
Natalie thought for a moment, then said, "In the bottom of my mother's wardrobe, there's a card with two hundred thousand dollars, that money she wouldn't even use if she needed a kidney transplant. That is your money, am I right?"
"Yes." After receiving the two hundred thousand dollars, Jerry gave it to Rosalie that same day.
However, to their surprise, after ten years, she hadn't spent a penny.
Because that money was exchanged for her husband and son's lives.
"Ms. Teeger, how is Rosalie doing now?" Jerry asked, concerned.
"She's ill, not living well." Natalie looked at Jerry before her, the man responsible for her father and brother's deaths, yet she didn't harbor any resentment towards him. "Jerry, Rosalie has been locked up in a mental hospital by Avery. She had a kidney transplant but suffered severe rejection reactions, and now she's in a coma."
"What?"
