Chapter 585 Birthday

As a blinding flash of white light hit Natalie, she felt like she was suffocating until she finally lifted her head and gulped in some fresh air. She gasped, staring at herself in the mirror, feeling both ridiculous and pathetic.

Natalie wiped her face and hair, slapped on some fresh makeup, and strutted back.

Back at the table, she acted like nothing had happened. She had this fake smile plastered on her face. "Adrian, I'll do whatever you say."

Adrian had been bracing himself for Natalie to flip out or give him the cold shoulder. Her agreeing with a smile threw him off, but he was relieved. He grabbed her hand and kissed it lightly. "Natalie, I swear, I'll give you the surprise of a lifetime."

Adrian was planning the wedding of the century for her.

But Natalie couldn't muster a real smile; her eyes were dead.

Still, she played the part perfectly, smiling sweetly. "Okay, can't wait."

That night, they didn't rush back. Adrian took her to the deck, and after 9 PM, the sky exploded with fireworks.

For a moment, it was like daylight over the sea.

Natalie stared at the fireworks, momentarily stunned, a glimmer flickering in her eyes.

Adrian leaned in close. "Do you like it?"

Natalie widened her eyes. "Did you do this?"

"Yep." Adrian saw her stunned look and the light in her eyes, feeling pretty pleased with himself. "Aren't they beautiful?"

Natalie nodded. "Yeah, they're beautiful. I like them."

She did like them. Who wouldn't?

But inside, she was ice cold.

All her likes were just for show.

Where Adrian couldn't see, her eyes dropped, void of any light, just cold and indifferent.

It was like those fireworks had nothing to do with her, and she was just a bystander.

Adrian made a call, then walked over and covered her eyes with his hand. "Hold on."

Everything went dark for Natalie.

She blinked, feeling a bit weird.

Adrian's hands were warm and dry, with a hint of tobacco. She grabbed his arm.

Her long lashes brushed against his palms. Adrian lowered his head. "Just a sec. Five, four, three, two, one."

Adrian let go.

The view lit up like daylight.

Fireworks sparkled everywhere in the night sky.

They formed different shapes, blooming brilliantly.

The words "Happy Birthday" flashed in front of Natalie.

A few seconds later, they faded.

Then another round of fireworks lit up.

For a full fifteen minutes, the sky was a fireworks show.

When it finally quieted down, a bunch of drones formed the image of a young girl in the sky, with the words " Wish You a Worry-Free Life" next to it.

"Natalie, happy birthday." Adrian stood beside her, holding her waist. When the sea breeze carried his words to her ears, she realized it was her birthday.

Natalie had forgotten her own birthday.

Suddenly, she felt a pang in her chest.

In the bright night sky, she looked up at Adrian's profile, his sharp features, high nose bridge, and deep-set eyes. She'd seen his handsome face countless times, but each time, her heart fluttered.
