Chapter 1224 Never

Jamie just glanced down, his eyes devoid of any emotion, "So what?"

"So you're going to say how bad she is, how hypocritical and scheming, and you, Ms. Howard, how kind and gentle you are?"

He turned his face, his gaze falling on Rachel's face. "Ms. Howard, is this why you called me here? Fine, I get it."

Rachel's pupils contracted, and she felt like she was suffocating.

How absurd and ridiculous it was that Jamie, knowing Andrea's intentions, still defended her as if Jamie would always side with Andrea, right or wrong.

"In what way am I inferior to Andrea? We grew up together too. The first time you knelt at the Howard mansion's gate, it was me who held the umbrella for you. I knew you before she did."

"You bought me a carousel, gave me a star. You used to be so good to me, Jamie. Why? Tell me, help me understand why someone who was so good to me suddenly changed, why you've become someone I don't even recognize."

Tears rolled down Rachel's face.

Jamie reached out, his long fingers lifting her delicate face. "Fine, I'll tell you. Because I gave the wrong person those things. Everything was meant for Andrea, but I mistook you for her. So everything was wrong from the start."

"I never had any feelings for you! From the beginning to the end, I've only ever liked Andrea. I did before, and I still do now."

Rachel's face turned pale, and she staggered back a step.

"What did you say?"

She trembled, "You said the carousel and the star were for Andrea?"

How could that be?

How could this be?

She must have just misheard.

Jamie watched as the color drained from Rachel's face, revealing a look of shock.

For a moment, Jamie didn't know what to say, some words stuck in his throat.

He bit his lip, "Rachel, so it was wrong from the start. Now that everything is clear, I hope you won't bother me anymore."

Rachel seemed to be hit hard, her back pressed against the wall just to barely keep herself from collapsing.

Jamie said everything before was fake.

The carousel and the Evening Star were meant for Andrea.

Not her.

Jamie had given them to the wrong person.

Rachel didn't know what expression to put on at this moment. She tried hard not to cry.

Dinner was about to start, and she couldn't show up in the dining room like this. But she couldn't help it; she was in so much pain, it felt like she was about to suffocate.

Jamie looked at her in pain, his thin lips pressed together, "Rachel..."

In the end, he decided against saying anything more.

He took a step to leave.

A weak hand grabbed Jamie's sleeve.

"Jamie, can you say that in the twenty years we've known each other, you've never liked me?"

Jamie's pupils trembled, and a memory flashed in his mind of being punished and kneeling in the yard during a heavy rain.

A girl held an umbrella, her clear eyes looking at him with a gentle gaze. The umbrella covered his head, and his vision blurred.

But he clearly remembered the pure eyes of that girl.

His heart suddenly tightened.

But it was only a matter of seconds before his face returned to its cold demeanor.

"Never."
