Chapter 783 Her Luck
"Smells amazing," Natalie said, taking a deep breath.
Adrian laughed, "Just soup and some stuff."
"You're a wizard in the kitchen. If you ever get tired of being a CEO, you could totally be a chef," Natalie joked, snapping a pic of him cooking.
The scene warmed her heart.
She thought, 'I'm so lucky to have someone like him cooking for me. If I had used my real name instead of Alice when we first met, maybe things would’ve been easier. I've wanted to come clean so many times. But Adrian hates lies more than anything. If I confess, will we even have what we have now? I've been lying to him for so long.'
Once the food was ready, they sat down to eat.
The dining room was close to the living room, so they could hear the TV.
A news report was on about a jewelry store in Vachilit getting robbed, and a $60 million gem going missing.
Natalie suddenly remembered what Derek had told her.
She said to Adrian, "Apparently, one of the hostages helped smuggle the gem out. That hostage was part of a mercenary group."
Adrian placed a bowl of soup in front of her and asked, "Derek told you this, right?"
Natalie nodded.
Adrian said, "These guys are probably from the K organization. The missing sapphire isn't super rare; there are lots of them around. A while back, a pink diamond worth over $100 million was auctioned at the Verono underground auction. I think someone went all out to hire the K organization to steal this sapphire for something else, like extending life."
Natalie's eyes widened. "What?"
It was the first time she'd heard that gems could extend life.
Adrian said, "The world is full of surprises. My grandpa has an old friend who had a heart attack. Everyone thought he was done for, but now he's getting better. Seems like something helped him. I found out he got an ancient tree root, which he used to make tea and soup every day. His health has improved a lot, though his heart condition is still there. So I think someone heard about this and spent a fortune to hire K organization's mercenaries to steal the sapphire."
Natalie's eyes widened again. It was the first time she'd heard such a wild story, but then again, the world is full of surprises.
She'd heard celebrity gossip before, about a star changing her fate.
"Who is Derek? I always thought he was just a bodyguard and part-time driver." After today, Natalie saw Derek in a whole new light.
Adrian replied, "A friend of a friend. He used to be part of the ZUW organization, also a mercenary. I heard Derek got injured during a mission and left the organization. Later, I thought you needed a bodyguard, so I hired him through a friend's introduction."
Natalie nodded. "Derek is pretty impressive."
Adrian looked at her and said, "Did Derek go to the jewelry store to rescue people today? And don't talk about other men being impressive in front of me, okay?"
