Chapter 698 He Said Sorry to Her

Natalie must be feeling like total crap, getting harrassed and having her role yanked and handed over to Alice as the lead actress. Adrian was feeling pretty shitty about it, too. He never thought the show he poured his money into would pull a last-minute switcheroo on the lead actress right before filming.

But what really threw Adrian off was seeing Natalie, who was just fuming, now flashing him a smile. It was not a real one, just a fake, emotionless grin.

It did explain a lot why Natalie would put on such a forced smile when Adrian asked her for the reason she didn't pick this show.

It turned that Claire had pulled some strings to swap the lead actress.

And nobody at Dynamic Entertainment bothered to give Adrian a heads-up about the role change.

Seeing that fake smile on Natalie's face, Adrian felt a nasty pang of guilt. It hurt more than seeing her pissed off.

Adrian walked over, plopped down on the sofa, and pulled Natalie into a hug, planting a kiss on her. She didn't pull away, just like always, but Adrian's mind was a mess. His voice was rough as he kissed her cheek. "I'm sorry. I had no clue about the role change."

Natalie replied, "You don't need to know. You're swamped, and the Howard Group needs you. Changing a role is no big deal; I wasn't gonna bother you with it."

"Natalie, from now on, just tell me straight up. You don't have to deal with this alone." Adrian hated seeing her so submissive and cold. He knew she was unhappy, he knew she was hurting. "I'm sorry. It's my fault."

Adrian rarely said sorry, and when he did, it was always for Natalie.

He'd never been moved by a woman, never softened, never bowed his head. But for Natalie, he did it all.

"You don't need to apologize, Adrian. It's not really your fault. Even if you knew, you couldn't do anything about it. Alice wanted the role, and you couldn't say no to her, right? One's your legit fiancée, and the other's your secret lover." Natalie leaned into Adrian's arms, but her voice was icy. "If I were you, I'd give it to my fiancée, too. Makes sense, right?"

Seeing Adrian's face, Natalie added, "Oh, I forgot, you hate it when I bring up Alice. Honestly, I don't wanna mention her either. Talking about her makes me sick, too."

She paused for a second and added, "Lucas was right. I'm just your lover. When you're happy, you throw me some resources and perks. When you're not, I get nothing. So, Adrian, I'll always try to stay happy, hoping the day you dump me comes as late as possible."

Hearing Natalie's self-deprecating and mocking tone, Adrian clenched his fists. "How do you know I won't help you?"

"So, would you ditch your fiancée to help your mistress?" Natalie shot back.

"How do you know I wouldn't?" Adrian's voice was strained and hoarse, his eyes locked on Natalie's face. She showed no emotion, and when she smiled, her eyes glinted with coldness.

Natalie said briefly, "Fine. Next time, I'll tell you."

She huffed it airily, then leaned back into Adrian's arms and fixed her eyes on the TV.

Adrain caught sight of the distrust in himand the tiredness in her eyes. She was brushing him off.
