Chapter 696 Take Her Away
Adrian's eyes cut through Herman and Lucas like a knife.
Lucas freaked out, knowing he was toast. He dropped to his knees. "Mr. Howard, I swear, it wasn't me! It was all Herman messing with Natalie. I'm innocent! I had no clue about Herman's shady stuff with the new actresses. He totally played me!"
Herman's eyes went red as Lucas threw him under the bus. If he was going down, he was taking Lucas with him. "Lucas, everyone at Dynamic Entertainment knows I'm your guy. Now you're blaming me? Who's gonna buy that you're squeaky clean?"
Herman turned to Adrian. "Mr. Howard, it was Lucas. Every project he touched, he jacked up the actoresses' pay by 30%, and pocketed the difference. Since he became president, he's skimmed at least $700 million from Dynamic Entertainment Media."
Lucas's face went pale. "Herman, you're full of it!" He never thought the guy he promoted would stab him in the back.
Adrian was over their drama. Holding Natalie, he just wanted to bounce.
Then Lucas blurted out, "Mr. Howard, it was Natalie who invited us, not me. I'm innocent, I swear. I didn't wanna come. Natalie said she was your girl and if I didn't show, she'd make our lives hell. I had no clue about Herman's beef with Natalie. Herman's embezzlement claims are total horseshit; he's got no proof!"
Adrian looked at Natalie in his arms. "You invited them?"
Natalie's face was pale, her lashes trembling. "So, you're doubting me now?"
Adrian said, "No, Natalie."
But Natalie saw the doubt in his eyes.
She smiled faintly. "I invited them to ask why they took my lead role. With Dynamic Entertainment Media under audit, they didn't wanna come out. So I said you had my back, and if they didn't show up, I'd make them pay."
She paused for a second and added, "Lucas said I was just your side piece, something you could toss anytime, and that I shouldn't get too cocky. Maybe Lucas is right. You don't trust me. You don't care about me. The lead role in One Day went to Alice. They owe me an explanation. What's wrong with that?"
Adrian's eyes narrowed. He looked at Natalie's pale face and her red lips. Even without lipstick, they had a faint color.
Natalie pushed Adrian away, her body swaying. Her eyes were a mix of mockery and disappointment.
Adrian called out, "Natalie."
She smiled, a tear rolling down her cheek. "Yeah, I'm just a mistress." She turned and scuttered away.
Adrian wanted to go after her but remembered the two guys still in the room. He turned to Lucas, his gaze ice-cold. Brice tried to stop him but failed.
The two waitresses hurried out of the room. Inside, screams echoed.
When Adrian got ruthless, he was downright terrifying.
