Chapter 109 Outstripping Others

Upon observing Natalie's continued hesitation, Serena couldn't help but chuckle. There was something undeniably endearing about Natalie's blend of gentleness and professionalism. With a teasing lilt in her voice, Serena prodded, "I'm the one footing the bill for the drinks here. Do you get a cut from that?"

Natalie nodded. "Two percent."

"That's hardly anything. Shouldn't you have mentioned this earlier?" Serena questioned.

"It's not a secret," Natalie replied nonchalantly.

"In that case, let's order a few more bottles. Will that boost your earnings for the night?"

Natalie hadn't anticipated this line of questioning. Maintaining her composed expression, she replied, "Tonight, everything's on the house."

Serena's eyes widened in surprise. "So, you're essentially working for free?"

Natalie simply nodded in affirmation.

Serena's playful demeanor shifted to one of seriousness. "How much are you supposed to earn tonight? I'll transfer it to you."

Natalie was taken aback, staring at Serena in disbelief. "Are you... Are you out of your mind?"

Meanwhile, Zoe excused herself to the restroom, with Anna trailing behind. Inside, the two women busied themselves with touch-ups to their makeup. Anna, ever the gossip, queried, "Who is that waiter? How does she know Serena?"

Distracted by her own thoughts, Zoe responded absentmindedly, "Ah, who knows?"

As Anna finished her makeup and prepared to return to the table, Zoe was still leisurely applying her lipstick. "I'm heading back first," Anna announced.

Once alone, Zoe stowed away her lipstick and took out a pink diamond bracelet from her diamond-studded handbag. It was the same bracelet Anna had reported missing. With a smirk, Zoe fastened the bracelet around her slim, radiant wrist, convinced that such a beautiful piece of jewelry looked best on her....

Natalie was kept busy until the break of dawn. After the last of the guests in the private room had departed, she instructed the cleaning staff to tidy up before finally closing the door.

Inside Melody's office, a woman was leisurely smoking, the white smoke slowly escaping from her crimson lips.

Denise, head bowed, pleaded softly, "I swear, I didn't steal anything."

Melody raised an eyebrow, exhaling a puff of smoke. She sighed, "Denise, that's just how society operates. The rich and powerful always have the upper hand. If you want to keep your job, you'll have to learn to swallow your pride. Whether you did it or not is irrelevant to me. What matters is that you learn how to minimize your losses if something like this happens again."

Looking at the young girl before her, Melody felt a pang of regret.

"I understand," Denise sobbed, though she was still struggling to comprehend. If she hadn't done anything wrong, why should she apologize?

"Your salary will be halved this month," Melody declared.

Denise dared not protest. She exited the office, head down, only to find Natalie waiting outside.

Natalie, seeing Denise's tear-streaked face, offered a comforting pat on her shoulder. "Go home and rest. Don't dwell on this."

Feeling aggrieved, Denise lamented, "Does being poor mean we have no dignity? Why should we let the rich trample all over us?"

Natalie, at a loss for words, simply pulled Denise into a comforting embrace.

"Denise, get some sleep. When you wake up tomorrow, try to forget about all this unpleasantness."

After comforting Denise, Natalie knocked on the door and entered Melody's office. Since starting her job at the Imperial Nightclub, she had only been to Melody's office twice.

The first time was when she first arrived.

The second time was now.
