Chapter 768 Thank You for Being by My Side
The leftovers were yesterday's dinner actually, and another maid from the Cullen family said she was going to throw it away.
Next morning, Natalie snagged it.
She took a bite; it was already rock hard, but still edible.
From then on, Natalie hit up the Cullen kitchen every morning at 4:30 to grab last night's leftovers, saving herself five bucks a day.
Back then, she had this classmate who'd drop fifteen bucks on a meal, living the high life, while Natalie had zilch.
But when she looked at the cash piling up in her piggy bank, she thought, "If I get a job later, I can save even more. I can tough it out."
Natalie wanted Rosalie to make it.
In a year, she saved over a grand.
The class planned a spring trip, which would cost her thirty-five bucks.
She clutched those thirty-five bucks in her sweaty palm, and in the end, the sweat soaked the money, but she didn't spend it.
Natalie was desperate to save Rosalie!
When she got home, she saw a bunch of missed calls from Adrian on her phone.
She'd totally forgotten Adrian said he'd pick her up after dinner.
She called him back and said, "Sorry, I got a ride with a friend."
Ever since Natalie got kidnapped and went missing, Adrian freaked out if he couldn't reach her. Hearing her voice now, he finally relaxed but noticed she sounded like she was about to cry.
Adrian asked, "What's up?"
Suddenly, Natalie felt super upset. "Where are you? I miss you so much."
Adrian replied, "I'll be right there."
Fifteen minutes later, Adrian showed up. Natalie was lying on her bed when she heard keys turning outside and bolted out barefoot.
As soon as Adrian opened the door, she threw herself into his arms.
She hugged him tight, burying her face in his chest.
She couldn't hold it in anymore and started bawling.
Outside, she had held back her tears, gritting her teeth, but now, seeing Adrian, she couldn't hold back. Sadness and grievance came flooding out.
Natalie complained, "You said you'd be right back. Why'd it take so long?"
"I'm sorry," Adrian said without thinking.
He felt how tightly she was holding him.
For the first time, he realized how strong she could be.
He felt a warmth on his chest.
She was crying.
Adrian held her waist with one hand and gently stroked her hair with the other. "It's okay. I'm here."
He didn't know what had happened to make her break down, but he felt a nasty spasm of helplessness and heartache.
"Natalie, I'll always be with you." Adrian just held her, gently comforting her.
She cried until she was exhausted, sobbing.
After a long time, she finally calmed down.
She looked at his clothes, soaked with her tears, her voice hoarse, "Sorry, I got your clothes wet."
Adrian's voice was full of tolerance and affection, "It's okay if they're wet."
He reached out and gently wiped her tear-streaked cheek.
There was obvious heartache in his eyes. "If you wanna cry, just cry. I'm here with you."
She looked up at his face and said, "Thank you, Adrian."
'Thank you for being by my side,' she thought.
His fingers, slightly cool, wiped her cheeks. "If something's bothering you, you can tell me. I'm here to listen."
She leaned back into his arms, listening to the sound of his heartbeat.
