Chapter 511 Suppression
The night breeze messed with Natalie's hair.
Her hairspray couldn't keep it in place, and a lock of hair brushed against her cheek, giving her a laid-back, gorgeous vibe. Natalie casually tucked it behind her ear, her eyes looking down. A photographer snapped these moments.
Everyone was waiting for Adrian, hoping he'd show up tonight, though no one knew if he'd actually walk the red carpet.
Reporters usually ignored folks without buzz, but one journalist threw out a question anyway.
"Hey, is it true you're joining the cast of Oscar's mystery flick?" a journalist asked.
Reporters had a nose for news, and this question hit the jackpot. Oscar had been MIA for three years, and his script for "Doomsday" had been in the works just as long. This was a big deal. Everyone thought Wendy would snag the lead, but two months ago, Oscar still hadn't started the project.
Then, out of nowhere, a gossip site claimed Natalie, a newbie with Dynamic Entertainment Media, might be the lead in Oscar's film.
Everyone was floored.
Why would Oscar pick a rookie for the lead?
Oscar's leading ladies were always top-notch, versatile stars.
Oscar had always said his work was crafted to be worthy of his audience, his fans, and himself.
And now, he was going with a newbie.
People online started speculating about Natalie's connections.
She must have some serious backing.
Some thought it was all fake news, saying no way a newbie could land such a big role.
But others shot that down real quick.
All eyes were on Natalie for her response.
But Natalie remembered Heather's advice and kept it vague. "We'll find out next month," she said.
Natalie left the red carpet, and Heather handed her a shawl as she walked into the venue.
Ten minutes after Natalie left, other actresses started showing up. Some keen-sensed media picked up on the tension and quickly asked the host if something had gone down backstage.
The host just smiled and said no.
But the seasoned journalists weren't buying it.
The host had to play it cool.
Ten minutes later, the red carpet action was back on.
Backstage, Mindy was dealing with the drama between Charlotte and Eunice.
Tonight's event was a big deal, and with this mess, a lot of people would have to answer for it. Even Mindy had to take responsibility for the red carpet. She pressed her lips together, her eyes sharp. "Charlotte, you were supposed to walk the red carpet. What happened?"
Charlotte looked pissed. Since winning Best Supporting Actress, she'd gotten better gigs, but despite the buzz, she wasn't getting much attention. She looked down on actresses like Eunice and couldn't stand being outshined by her on the red carpet.
