Chapter 238 Guilt
Avery couldn't believe it. "Let her go? No way!"
Avery thought, 'Without Rosalie, Natalie will be uncontrollable. She is already a handful; who knows what she'll do without Rosalie as leverage. The truth in the hotel that day is a ticking time bomb. Before Alice becomes Mrs. Howard, this secret has to stay buried!'
When Curtis heard his daughter was in a coma, he rushed to the hospital.
At the hospital, he saw Avery, who pointed at Natalie. "Curtis, this is the girl you've been protecting. If it weren't for her, Alice wouldn't be unconscious. If anything happens to Alice, Natalie will pay!"
Curtis looked at Natalie. "Natalie, did you really push Alice?"
Since learning the truth about her father and brother's deaths, Natalie felt as though Curtis' usually warm and gentle face had been torn apart in front of her.
Curtis had helped her out of guilt for what happened back then, right?
She had thought about telling Curtis that her mom was in Avery's hands.
She wanted Curtis to save Rosalie. But now, she understood.
Alice, Avery, and Curtis were a family. They'd always stick together and cover up the truth.
If she told Curtis about her mom, he'd just play peacemaker. Avery was his wife; if she cried, Curtis would comfort her.
Ridiculous.
"Yes, it was me," Natalie laughed sarcastically. "I can't wait for you three to get what you deserve!"
Curtis's face changed. The usually gentle Natalie acting like this made him scold, "Natalie, watch your mouth!"
Natalie said, "Mr. Cullen, stop pretending. I've seen enough of the Cullen family!"
Curtis pointed at her. "Natalie, you've really disappointed me!"
Mockingly, Natalie replied, "Disappointed? Do you think the truth about my father and brother's deaths can stay hidden forever?"
Curtis was stunned. 'Does Natalie know?' he thought.
Avery hadn't expected Natalie to find out about Stanley and Ryan's deaths. She looked at Natalie. "It was an accident. Natural disasters and misfortunes are fate. You can't blame Curtis; it was just bad luck for your father and brother."
"Enough, Avery," Curtis said, his face hardening at the mention of the past.
"Accident?" Natalie licked the blood at the corner of her mouth, her chest heaving with anger. She looked at Curtis. "Mr. Cullen, do you dare say it was really an accident?"
Curtis's face looked grim. This had always been a thorn in his heart, a source of guilt.
He felt guilty, but it also eased his conscience.
Natalie pressed on. "Mr. Cullen, did you really switch cars with my father on a whim that day?"
"I..." Curtis was speechless, his face showing guilt and anger. "Natalie, it's been many years. I haven't dared to forget."
Avery knew Curtis had never forgotten, especially with Rosalie involved. Seeing his expression, she gritted her teeth and looked at Natalie. "Curtis has done more than enough for you and your mother. Everything you and Rosalie have eaten, worn, and lived in all these years has been provided by the Cullen family. You're nothing but ungrateful."
"Mr. Cullen, I hope you can live with your conscience." With that, Natalie turned and left.
