When Adrian caught the first part of the sentence, he felt a pang of guilt.
But the second part? That hit different.
She gave him her virginity.
How ludicrous!
Alice's private life was a train wreck. Maybe on one would find out who had taken Alice's virginity. In that video, she was all over a bunch of dudes. If Alice hadn't saved him and Claire, Adrian would've blasted that video everywhere and called off the engagement.
'Wait, virginity?' Adrian scrutinized Alice. Something came floating out of his memory. That night when he lost control and slept with a woman, he'd just gotten back, and he was sure he was drugged.
However, he could tell it was the woman's first time.
And that didn't add up with Alice. Her virginity was ancient history.
So, who was the girl with him that night?
Was it really Alice?
Adrian was floored. He stared at Alice's face.
Alice's face was streaked with tears, looking all pitiful, but now she seemed kinda guilty under Adrian's stare. Did she mess up? Why was Adrian looking at her like that?
Alice asked, "Adrian, did I say something wrong?"
Adrian suddenly grinned, his voice surprisingly soft. "Alice, you said that night you went to the Four Seasons Hotel to celebrate a friend's birthday, right? And you accidentally ended up in my room?"
Alice's heart pounded. Did she screw up? Her mind was blank. Adrian's smile made her guilt spike. Alice forced herself to stay cool. "Yeah, it was my friend's birthday. I didn't expect to run into you. Maybe it was fate."
"Alice, what's your friend's name? Since fate brought us together, I owe your friend a thanks." Adrian's voice stayed gentle, but his eyes were ice-cold.
Alice's brain was racing, but it was like it hit a wall. She couldn't think of a name. There was no friend; she made it up in a panic last time.
One lie always needed a bunch more to cover it up.
Alice said weakly, "It was a classmate from my high school."
Adrian caught all her panic. "Really? I remember you said last time it was a college classmate."
Alice's face went pale. Did she say that?
Alice quickly said, "Yeah, a college classmate. I forgot. Ever since I got out of the hospital, my memory's been shot. I can't remember a lot of stuff."
Adrian squinted. "What was the name again? I remember you told me, was it Lysander or Leander?"
Alice's cheeks went numb, and her brain almost shut down. How did Adrian know about Leander?
When did she mention it?
Alice didn't remember saying it.
Did she slip up?
If Adrian found out about Leander, she was doomed.
All of Alice's past would come crashing down.
Leander, a rich playboy, wouldn't keep her secrets.
"Adrian, I felt a sharp pang in the legs." Alice, flooded with guilty, lied abruptly.
Adrian stood up, holding the wheelchair with a concerned look. "Are you okay? I'll take you to the hospital."
