Chapter 414 Say my Name
Natalie flicked on the range hood and got busy cooking.
She didn't even notice Adrian sneaking up behind her.
The kitchen was filled with the mouth-watering smell of food.
Suddenly, a hand snaked around her waist, and Natalie froze. She glanced down, spotting Adrian's long, clean fingers, and finally realized he was there.
She was still clutching the spatula.
She tried to turn around, but Adrian held her tight, resting his chin on her shoulder. Natalie's shoulders were so thin, it made Adrian a bit uneasy. He took a deep breath, inhaling the cherry blossom scent from her neck. "Are you eating alright? You're so skinny."
Natalie turned down the gas a bit. She sensed something was off with Adrian tonight. "Is something up at the company?" she asked.
She'd seen those news reports, none of which were good for Adrian.
Adrian had been back in the country for less than ten months, and the Howard Group was already a battlefield. Ruben had handed the reins over to Adrian, and he'd been doing well, but now, there were issues.
After that unexpected incident at the charity gala, the Howard Group's stock started to dip.
It wasn't a huge drop, just a small fluctuation, but it still affected Adrian.
Adrian held Natalie, then suddenly lifted her by the hips and set her on the table. Natalie gasped, and Adrian kissed her. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and they kissed passionately. The only sounds were the simmering pot and their heated breaths.
Outside, Lucky was having a blast, running around with a ball in its mouth.
In the kitchen, three minutes later, the long kiss ended. Adrian let go of Natalie, his voice rough. "Natalie, I'm marrying Alice next month."
Natalie's eyes widened.
They were still caught up in the moment, but Adrian's words hit her like a bucket of ice water.
Natalie asked, "So, you're upset because you're marrying Alice? Adrian, haven't you been looking forward to this?"
It was no surprise he was marrying Alice, but Natalie didn't know what she was hoping for. Why did it hurt so much to hear he was marrying Alice?
If Adrian married Alice, what did that make her? His side chick?
Natalie felt like she couldn't breathe, like something was crushing her chest.
Her fingers clenched and then relaxed.
Before Adrian could say anything, Natalie said, "Congrats, you got what you wanted."
Adrian didn't know why, but when he got home and saw Natalie, looking at the cozy scene, he felt the need to tell her.
Natalie's face didn't show much emotion. Adrian couldn't read her, and it left him feeling disappointed. What did he want to see? Did he want her to beg him not to marry Alice?
But she smiled and congratulated him. Did she not care about him at all?
Adrian's fingers gripped her chin a bit harder. He didn't like the smile in her eyes.
Natalie winced in pain. "What's wrong with you?"
Adrian scooped her up and carried her out of the kitchen. Natalie struggled. "Hey, the beef is still simmering. Let me down to turn off the stove."
Adrian carried her to the living room. Natalie's back sank into the soft sofa. She wrapped her arms around Adrian's neck. The sofa was big enough for both of them.
Adrian's voice was hoarse. "Natalie, say my name."
Natalie called him, "Adrian."
