Chapter 1078 Live and Die Together
Natalie blinked.
The doctor held up his hand and asked, "How many fingers am I holding up?"
Natalie wanted to answer, but her throat felt like it was full of sandpaper. She couldn't get a word out.
The doctor said, "Just blink the number of times you see."
Natalie blinked twice.
The doctor let out a big sigh of relief.
At least she could still see and hear, and her nerves seemed okay.
After a bunch of tests, the doctor said all of Natalie's vitals were getting back to normal. She was out of the woods and could be moved to a regular room.
Heather cried tears of joy, thinking, 'Thank goodness. Natalie is okay.'
The Howard family got the call, and Melissa and Rachel rushed over to see Natalie.
Natalie had already been moved to a regular room. She had just woken up, and everything was a blur. She tried to focus but couldn't remember anything.
Heather stayed by her side, gently wiping Natalie's arms with a towel. "I'm so glad you're awake. You really scared me."
Natalie was super thirsty, her throat felt like a desert, and she couldn't speak.
Heather poured some water, and Natalie took a sip.
Heather said, "Don't drink too much. The doctor said you can't eat or drink much right now. You had surgery, so it's best to take it easy."
Natalie still needed a ventilator to breathe, lying in the hospital bed, barely able to move, not even sure where she was hurt.
She grabbed Heather's arm. Her foggy thoughts finally cleared. She remembered the car accident with Adrian. 'Where is Adrian? How is he?' Natalie wondered.
Seeing the worry in her eyes, Heather held her hand. "Natalie, you just got out of the ICU. You need to rest. Once you're better, we'll go see Mr. Howard."
Natalie squeezed Heather's hand with all her strength, thinking, 'How is Adrian? Heather, tell me! I need to know. If something happens to Adrian, my life would be over.?'
Heather's eyes flickered.
Natalie's heart sank, fearing the worst for Adrian.
Her already pale face turned even whiter, her lips colorless, making her look so fragile.
Heather said, "He's okay, but he hasn't woken up yet. The doctor said his injuries are worse. Even though the surgery went well, they can't say when he'll wake up. It could be tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, or even ten years from now."
Natalie's eyes widened, and she trembled, her dry lips cracked, her eyes filled with tears. She closed her eyes, and a tear slid down her cheek as she thought, 'Adrian, I know you'll wake up. You promised we would face everything together.'
In Natalie's mind, she replayed the car flipping, the rapid descent, water rushing in, the suffocating feeling. Adrian held her hand tightly, promising they'd face life and death together.
Now that she was awake, Adrian would wake up too, as he had promised her.
Natalie tried to sit up, but Heather held her down. "You can't move. There are still tubes and stuff hooked up to you. Don't move."
Melissa and Rachel walked in.
Rachel quickly came over to support Natalie. "Natalie, you're awake. How do you feel?"
