Chapter 617 A Card Game
Yancy was a couple of years younger than Heather, and Natalie loved to mess with Heather, calling him her little boyfriend.
Heather shot back, "He's hurt and listless. And you're still teasing me? Whatever, I'm heading over now."
She hung up and got ready to bounce.
Yancy grabbed her fingers, squinting. "Did you just mean I have no energy?"
Heather didn't think her offhand comment would stick with him.
She leaned in, kissed him, and then pulled back. "No way, Yancy, you're the best and full of energy. But I gotta go, Natalie's waiting. We're off to Vilniusky to shoot a film this afternoon, and it'll take about two months."
Heather squeezed his hand. "I'll find time to come around. Take care, and if anything comes up, hit up Julian. Don't try to tough it out."
Yancy didn't expect to be so neatly planned for. Heather couldn't waste any time and took off. Yancy sniffed the faint scent she left behind and chuckled.
Being taken care of felt pretty good.
Yancy laughed but then winced as he pulled at his wound. Once the pain faded, he smiled again. He pulled out his phone, fiddled with it one-handed, and shot Heather a message on Facebook.
Yancy: [Heather, take it easy on the road. If you need anything and I can't make it, hit up Julian. He can handle it, though he's not as good as me.]
At 10 AM, Avery set up a card game.
Renee brought over some coffee and set up the card table.
The players were rich ladies who were tight with Avery. Ever since the news dropped that Alice was marrying into the Howard family, Avery had made it into Vachilit's high society. She couldn't splurge on million-dollar handbags, but her daughter Alice, being Adrian's fiancée, was set to marry into the Howard family.
Even though it had been over a year since the news broke and Alice still hadn't tied the knot with the Howards, people laughed at the Cullen family behind their backs. But to their faces, everyone sucked up to Avery.
After the cards were dealt, Avery had a lucky streak, winning two games in a row.
Avery grinned. "I'm on fire today."
Another lady, who'd been losing non-stop, forced a smile. "Mrs. Cullen, last month, my daughter got engaged to the Newman family."
The Newman Group was doing well, and the two families were a good match.
The lady added, "Mrs. Cullen, seeing my daughter in a happy marriage is such a relief to me."
Avery thought to herself, 'Since Alice recovered, she hasn't gotten pregnant. If Alice gets pregnant, everything else will be a breeze.'
