Chapter 98 He's Not My Boyfriend

At that moment, a fervent desire surged within him, threatening to fracture his very being. The gentle allure of Rachel was a ceaseless torment to his already strained mind. Jamie's pupils constricted abruptly as he reached out, tapping Rachel's neck with a forceful precision.

In an instant, Rachel succumbed to unconsciousness.

Swiftly, Jamie lifted the blanket, covering Rachel's form before he departed the room, his thoughts a whirlwind of chaos.

...

Meanwhile, in the banquet hall below.

A startled cry echoed through the room. Natalie reached out in haste, steadying the woman teetering on the brink of a fall. Despite her efforts, the champagne in the woman's hand sloshed onto Natalie's dress.

"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry!" Serena hastily set down her glass, her expression riddled with guilt as she apologized to Natalie.

Natalie managed a strained smile. "It's okay."

"But you're soaked," Serena lamented, her brows furrowing in distress. She mumbled, "These heels are too thin. I wouldn't have stumbled otherwise."

Suddenly, as if a thought struck her, she pulled out her phone. "I have a change of clothes in my car. Wait here, I'll have the driver bring them over."

"There's no need to go to such lengths."

"It's no trouble at all," Serena assured her, quickly giving instructions to her driver before hanging up. She then turned to Natalie, her eyes twinkling with a friendly smile. "You're the girlfriend of that handsome doctor, aren't you? I overheard it earlier."

Natalie blushed. "He's not my boyfriend."

"Oh? Really?" Serena's brows knitted in surprise, but she didn't press further, respecting Natalie's privacy. She extended her hand to Natalie. "Hello, nice to meet you. I'm Serena Nicholson."

Natalie was taken aback. Alice's snide remark about her being "the Cullen family's servant" had caused the other socialites to give her a wide berth. Serena was the first to actively engage her in conversation.

Without waiting for a response, Serena continued, "Thank you for catching me earlier. I would have made quite a spectacle of myself otherwise." She playfully stuck out her tongue, causing Natalie to chuckle. This Serena was certainly different from the other socialites.

Their brief exchange was interrupted by the arrival of Serena's driver, carrying the promised dress.

Serena took Natalie's hand, leading her towards the elevator. "I have a lounge on the third floor. I'll accompany you there."

"Okay."

Just as they were about to enter the elevator, Serena's phone rang. She apologized, regret evident in her voice, "Natalie, I'm sorry, something's come up..."

"It's fine, go ahead. Just give me your address and I'll return the dress once it's cleaned."

"No need, consider it a gift!" With that, Serena hurried off.

Natalie was left in a state of uncertainty. The dress was clearly new and expensive; she couldn't possibly accept it. But given her current predicament, her dress sticky and uncomfortable, she had no choice but to retreat to the lounge and change.

Serena had provided her with a lake blue dress. It was slightly large for Natalie's petite frame, but a matching waist belt helped cinch it at the waist.

Once changed, Natalie carefully placed her red dress in the box.

She glanced at the time. There was still an hour left of the birthday banquet. Jagger had been called away by Adrian and hadn't returned, likely engaged in conversation with familiar faces.

After a moment's thought, she sent a message to Jagger.

Natalie: [I'll be resting in the lounge for a while.]

Jagger's response was prompt.

Jagger: [Okay, I'll find you after the banquet ends.]

Natalie was about to reply when suddenly, the sound of the door lock turning caught her attention. The urgency of the sound sent a shiver down her spine.
