Chapter 756 Contacting Him
Natalie and Anouk ducked behind a big tree, trying to stay outta sight. Natalie slapped a hand over her mouth as she watched four dudes and two motorcycles zoom past.
Anouk's face was white as a sheet. "It's them. The guy on the back seat was the lookout. They're coming for us."
There was only one road, and they were stuck. No way forward.
The night breeze was kinda nippy.
Natalie hugged herself tight.
Anouk was shaking. "What do we do now?"
The main problem they faced was that they had no means of communication.
If they had a phone, Natalie could hit up Adrian and the cops in a heartbeat.
This place seemed particularly backward.
But it was precisely because of this that the kidnappers chose it as a location.
Only old folks lived here. Even if they screamed for help, no one would come.
Natalie whispered, "Let's chill here. We gotta be sneaky and make it to town tonight."
Those guys would head to town first once they realized the girls were gone. And there'd still be some goons left in the village.
Natalie and Anouk were in a real jam.
At least they weren't dressed too light; otherwise, they'd be popsicles by now.
Natalie thought it through, "They left people in the village, so they won't be back soon. The town's big. They think we went there, so they'll search there. We gotta use this chance to get there fast. More people in town means they can't just snatch us in front of everyone."
But they had to watch out for those sedatives.
Anouk nodded.
They set off again.
It was a rough trek. No water, nothing. Natalie's throat felt like sandpaper. They finally hit the town around 8 PM, but it was just the outskirts.
Anouk ripped off the buttons from her denim jacket. They were made of gemstones with tiny diamonds. The kidnappers must've thought they were just cheap plastic.
Anouk found a shop and handed one of the buttons to the owner. "This is real, with small diamonds. Can we get two bottles of water, two pieces of bread, and use your phone?"
The shop owner checked it out. Women know their gems. Her eyes lit up. "Sure, take 'em."
Natalie quickly said, "Thanks."
Anouk grabbed the water and bread, and Natalie rushed to the public phone to call Adrian. It barely rang twice before he picked up.
Adrian's voice came through, "Hello, who is this?"
Hearing his voice, Natalie teared up. "It's me."
"Where are you? Are you okay, Natalie?" Adrian's voice was shaky and urgent.
Natalie choked up, "I'm at a small shop in Aviara Town. It's a long story. When can you get here? I'm really scared."
Adrian didn't hesitate, "Wait there, half an hour. I'm on my way."
Adrian had been losing his mind looking for Natalie. He'd gone to the cops, but they had zilch.
In that short time, Adrian realized he couldn't live without her. Any danger to her felt like a knife to his heart.
