Chapter 1280 Luck

"I played rock-paper-scissors with my friend at the time. As for the others, I don't know. Oh, right, my friend, when he was ransomed out, he was fine, but his memory was altered. Even now, when he recalls his time on the cruise ship, he gets headaches and feels awful."

"So what exactly happens to the people who lose?"

"You can imagine, the losers are treated as experimental subjects, voluntary experimental subjects."

Natalie was greatly shocked.

So that's how it is.

"What's behind Ocean Harmony? Who's the boss? Do you know?"

"Never heard of it, just know it's very mysterious. They say it has deep connections. I'm only telling you this because of Jamie. For other things, it's better if you know less. As for your friend, if he doesn't come out after two weeks, it means he lost inside. If you have money, you can ransom him out, but the process is a bit difficult."

"Why is it difficult? Many sons of wealthy families went in and were eventually ransomed out by their families, right?"

If it was about money, Natalie had it. As long as Derek was okay, that was all that mattered.

"You're thinking too simply. From the moment you step onto that cruise ship, all your information is stored inside. If you're an ordinary person, you won't be allowed to be ransomed out."

"Alright, I can't talk anymore, I have things to do. Bye."

Then, she heard the busy tone.

Natalie frowned slightly.

The sound of boiling water brought her back to reality. Natalie quickly turned off the stove and looked up to see Adrian watching her.

"You want to know about Ocean Harmony?"

"Yes." Natalie didn't hide it. "My friend went there, it's been over twenty days, and he hasn't come out. I'm afraid something happened to him. You've met this friend, Derek, the driver you arranged."

"I'll have Brice look into it for you. Ocean Harmony, I went in once before."

Adrian recalled, "When I went in, it was..."

He paused, looking at Natalie with a complex expression.

This was something Natalie had never seen before.

She added water to the pot, covering the ingredients, and set it to simmer on low heat.

After handling everything, she walked over to Adrian.

"If it's difficult for you, you don't have to say."

"Jamie and I both went in, it was seven or eight years ago. We did it for Andrea. She was severely injured and in a coma. Several hospitals said she couldn't be saved, unless a miracle happened or the top neurosurgeon, Cassian Vaughn, intervened."

"Andrea was in that state because of me. I went in to seek help. In the end, Jamie and I, at the last moment, I won, he lost. I came out, he returned a month later, completely changed. But Cassian agreed to perform the final surgery. He's the father of neurosurgery. With his help, Andrea was pulled back from the brink of death, but she became a vegetative state."

"I see."

So Jamie had also been in there.

"How did you get out in the end?"

"Luck," Adrian said solemnly, "drawing lots."

It sounded like a joke, but it was true.

Drawing lots, rock-paper-scissors, Natalie vaguely understood.

What changes is fate, but winning depends on luck.

This place is very strange.
