"Violette, do you think I'm a cold-hearted person? I had a foster mother who treated me very well. She got sick and needed a kidney transplant. At that time, I was in college, working hard to earn money for her surgery."

Violette was truly shocked to hear this about Natalie. "Mrs. Howard, it's all in the past. These people don't deserve to be your parents. You're not a heartless person, Mrs. Howard. You have a very kind heart."
Natalie lowered her head, feeling as if she were in a confined space, making her uncomfortable and causing her breathing to become labored.
Violette wanted to comfort Natalie, but then she heard the sound of boiling water from the kitchen. She quickly stood up and ran to the kitchen.
As she turned, she saw Adrian standing at the staircase, seemingly having been there for a while.
He must have heard what Natalie had just said.
Adrian gestured for her to be quiet.
Natalie seemed to be in a world of her own.
She didn't move or blink, just stared blankly ahead.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her, followed by the sound of the TV. Someone sat down next to her.
Natalie turned her head and saw Adrian. As she stood up to go upstairs, Adrian grabbed her wrist.
"Let's watch a TV show together."
Natalie sat back down.
Adrian asked, "What do you like to watch?"
"You decide."
"You once starred in a movie called 'The Nameless Road.' I think I watched it before but forgot. Why don't you watch it with me again? I heard it was your breakthrough role."
"Sort of. That movie made the audience accept and recognize me. It also put me in the spotlight."
"Then let's watch this movie," Adrian said, pressing the remote.
Natalie was already very familiar with the movie. She could recall every scene, every line, every transition, and Carina's transformation from innocence to a mature, sharp smile with her eyes closed.
The entire film lasted two hours.
Adrian didn't fast-forward.
Violette prepared a fruit platter, two bowls of oatmeal, and some snacks, placing them on the table before stepping aside.
Natalie had seen this movie three times in the theater.
But this time, watching it at home with Adrian felt different.
Adrian said, "I watched this movie with you before, didn't I?"
Natalie nodded.
"Yeah, back then, you rented out the entire theater, just for the two of us."
Adrian smiled, "I was such a dork back then."
"You had plenty of dorky moments with me," Natalie recalled, taking off her necklace with a diamond ring hanging from it.
"This is the ring you proposed with, delivered by a drone. You said you'd give me a ring every day and that it was your first time proposing to a girl."
