Chapter 818 Rescue
Curtis was livid when he heard the news. "Renee, if anything happens to Alice's baby, I swear I won't forgive you!"
Renee, shaking, looked to Avery for backup. But when Curtis was this mad, even Avery didn't dare to step in.
The room went dead silent, everyone on edge, waiting for the operating room door to open.
Adrian rubbed his temples, not surprised that Melissa, who usually had Alice's back, suddenly flipped the script.
The Cullen family had never really messed with the Howards before. But now, blaming them for Alice's coma? That was bound to stir up some serious anger.
After a few tense minutes, Avery couldn't keep quiet any longer.
"Renee, what happened to Alice? Did she eat something bad or get hurt? She's been away for two months, and I miss her like crazy. I never thought I'd hear she was rushed to the hospital during the holidays," Avery said, tears starting to flow.
Curtis, for once, was on Avery's side. He was usually held back by Melissa, but this time, he needed answers about Alice's emergency. The Cullen Group might be small, but they weren't pushovers.
Renee explained, "Alice got knocked down by two kids the day after Christmas. She felt off but didn't want to cause a scene with all the important guests at the Howard's. She thought it was no big deal, took some meds, and tried to brush it off. But it got worse the next day."
Avery sobbed, "Alice."
She collapsed into Curtis's arms, and he held her tight. "It's okay. Alice will pull through."
Melissa watched Avery's performance, listening to the loaded conversations.
Even Claire, usually so gentle, could sense the blame in Avery's words. She was worried about Alice's baby, but Avery and Renee were clearly pointing fingers at the Howards. The kids knocked Alice down, and she kept quiet for the greater good. The truth was murky, but the Cullens blaming the Howards outright was a no-go.
Claire stepped in, "Alright, Mr. and Mrs. Cullen, let's wait until Alice wakes up to sort this out."
After another ten minutes, the operating room door finally opened, and a nurse came out.
She had a mask on but looked worried. "Where are the family members? Come here. The baby couldn't be saved, and there's severe bleeding. The uterus is badly damaged. Our specialists are doing everything they can, but her condition is critical."
"What?" Claire's face went white.
Avery nearly fainted, and Curtis had to hold her up.
Melissa rushed over, demanding, "What's going on? Explain this! How did it get this bad?"
She couldn't believe Alice's condition was so dire!
Melissa thought, 'Was it really just two kids knocking her down? How did it get this serious?'
