Chapter 1089 Curtis Learns the Truth
Curtis's phone buzzed. It was his private number, one hardly anyone had.
He had a separate number for work, and that one never stopped ringing.
Right now, Curtis couldn't catch a break. He figured someone must've leaked his private number.
But the phone kept ringing, so Curtis finally picked it up. "Stop hounding me. I don't have any money. If you want my life, come and take it."
He was done being scared.
A strange voice on the other end said, "Are you Curtis Cullen? Your wife slit her wrists in prison and is now being resuscitated at Oasis Hospital. As her family, you should come over."
Curtis was floored. 'Avery slit her wrists? Good. Isn't all this mess because of her? If she hadn't crashed into Adrian and Natalie, Adrian wouldn't be in a coma, and the Howard family wouldn't be crushing the Cullen Group. Avery's lost it, and she's dragging our only daughter, Alice, down with her.'
Curtis downed the rest of his liquor, got up, and stumbled out.
'I'm going to Oasis Hospital. Even if Avery's dying, I need to see it for myself. I'm still here, but she couldn't handle it and tried to off herself,' Curtis thought.
In the early hours at Oasis Hospital's emergency room, prison guards were waiting outside, including a female officer.
The female officer saw Curtis approaching. "Are you Avery's family?"
Curtis reeked of booze, and the female officer frowned.
Curtis asked, "Is Avery dead?"
The female officer sensed his hostility but figured he was just drunk and talking nonsense. "She's still being resuscitated."
About twenty minutes later, the emergency room door opened, and the doctor came out. "We got her here just in time, and the object she used wasn't too sharp. She's out of danger."
Avery was wheeled out, her wrists handcuffed to the bed, still conscious.
Avery stared at the ceiling, wide-eyed, and then saw Curtis.
Suddenly, she sat up and grabbed Curtis's hand tightly, her lips trembling like she wanted to say something but couldn't. She screamed, and Curtis shook her off.
If Avery hadn't tried to kill herself tonight, she wouldn't have seen Curtis. Now that she was stable, the police wanted to take her away. Avery gritted her teeth. "Curtis, Alice isn't our child."
Lately, Avery had lost it, driven mad by the report Natalie left behind.
The police came over and grabbed Avery. She struggled so hard that the two prison guards couldn't hold her down. The IV needle in her hand got yanked out. She looked at Curtis and repeated like a broken record, "Alice isn't our child. I killed our child."
Curtis couldn't make sense of her rambling.
Seeing Avery alive drained his last bit of patience.
Avery cried, "Curtis, Natalie is our child."
Curtis's face went rigid. "Avery, do you even know what you're saying?"
