Chapter 118 Hanging on By a Thread
Rosalie had returned home to celebrate her grandmother's birthday. It was during this familial reunion that she found out Avery was getting married to Curtis. The revelation was a shock, as it seemed the two had gotten together after Rosalie left.
At that moment, the situation between the trio was palpably tense. Rosalie, attempting to navigate the awkward situation, decided to extend her blessings to the couple.
However, an unexpected turn of events occurred one fateful night. Under the influence of alcohol, Rosalie found herself entangled in a scandalous affair with Curtis. The situation was further complicated when Avery walked in on them.
In that instant, the sisterly bond that once existed between Rosalie and Avery evaporated. Avery, unable to contain her outrage, brought the issue to their grandmother, sparking numerous heated disputes. Despite the controversy, Avery and Curtis's marriage proceeded as planned. Following their union, Avery manipulated their grandmother into approving Rosalie's marriage to Stanley, a driver from the Cullen family.
Rosalie, cornered by circumstances and her grandmother's persuasion, reluctantly agreed to the marriage.
In time, she bore a son and continued her life as a servant within the Cullen household.
She mourned the loss of her once intimate sisterly bond with Avery, a bond forged by blood. One man had managed to fracture their relationship, leaving Rosalie with a heavy heart filled with regret and sorrow.
In a moment of reflection, Rosalie said, "I thought you had forgotten about the past."
Avery replied, "How can I forget? I can still picture how you seduced Curtis, even with my eyes closed!"
"That night, I was indeed drunk. It was not my intention for that to happen."
"Enough with your hypocrisy, Rosalie! Wasn't it your intention? You slept with Curtis, how could it not have been your intention?" Avery exploded, her words laced with venom. "And your bitchy daughter, she's just like you. Like mother, like daughter. Equally as manipulative, she even wants to seduce Alice's fiancé!"
"No way, Natalie would never do such a thing," Rosalie retorted. "Avery, you can insult me, but you can't insult Natalie."
"Hmph, want me to show you how your bitchy daughter seduced Adrian and crawled into his bed?"
With a smirk, Avery pulled out a stack of photos from her bag and tossed them onto the floor.
Scattered across the floor were images of women with hazy eyes, some nude, some in profile. The lighting was dim, but the figures bore a striking resemblance to Natalie.
Rosalie's eyes widened in disbelief.
"No, it's not true, Avery. These photos must be doctored by you!"
"Believe it or not, it's up to you. Your bitchy daughter has the same predatory behavior as you, targeting engaged men for seduction. She's absolutely shameless! Should I arrange a marriage for her? I think Renee's cousin has a son who served time in jail. He was recently released. He would be a perfect match for your bitchy daughter."
Rosalie collapsed to the ground, her breaths coming in quick, shallow gasps. She stared at the incriminating photos scattered on the floor, her heart pounding in her chest.
Having recently undergone major surgery and reliant on daily medication, her emotions were running high. Her body trembled uncontrollably as she glared at Avery. "Leave Natalie alone. If you have any issues, come at me. Otherwise, you will regret it! Avery, you will definitely regret doing this!"
"Regret? My biggest regret, Rosalie, is knowing someone like you!"
Overwhelmed by the confrontation, Rosalie's emotions peaked, and she fainted.
Avery kicked Rosalie with her foot before calling for a bodyguard. "Get the doctor here. No need to treat her well, just let her hang on by a thread."
Avery seethed inwardly, 'How could Curtis still come to see her? How could he still care for Rosalie?'
As for her threat to marry Natalie off to Renee's nephew, it was merely a ploy to provoke Rosalie. But now, upon reflection, it didn't seem like such a bad idea after all.
