Chapter 17 Alice, Wait for Me

The auction downstairs had already started, and Natalie noticed the unique decor of the place. From her seat, she had a clear view of the auction hall on the first floor. One by one, the items were auctioned off, but Adrian never raised his paddle. Natalie couldn't figure out what he wanted to buy or why he had brought her here.

It wasn't until a top-tier pink diamond appeared that Adrian finally made a move, raising his paddle and winning the bid for a cool hundred million dollars. After sealing the deal, Adrian looked down at her and asked, "Do you like it?"

Natalie was taken aback. "Is it for me?"

"Is there anyone else here?" he chuckled softly.

By the time the auction ended, it was pitch dark outside. Adrian held Natalie's hand as they left, the night breeze cool against their skin. She ran her fingers through her wind-tousled hair, only to feel a sudden tightness around her waist. She looked up to find Adrian's face inches from hers, his handsome features magnified before her eyes. They drew closer, his warm breath brushing against her face. Under his gaze, Natalie's cheeks slowly turned red.

"I have to go to Verono next Friday," he said.

"Okay." His sudden closeness made Natalie nervous. She clenched her fists, her cheeks burning even hotter. Despite her heavily made-up face, her features remained delicate. Her ears were a deep pink, clearly showing her shyness. He frowned slightly, then laughed.

He hadn't expected Alice to be so easily flustered, a stark contrast to her usual bold demeanor around him. The pink diamond was partly a gesture of responsibility, but also a reminder to himself that he had a fiancée. Yet, looking at Alice now, he couldn't help but think of Natalie.

Realizing this, the tenderness in Adrian's eyes faded a bit. "I have some business to attend to. Kyle will take you home," he said. As for the questions in his heart, he would deal with them when he returned.

"Okay." Natalie didn't dare ask more. Her heart was pounding, and she wanted to leave immediately. If she stayed any longer, she feared she might give herself away. Just as she was about to get into the car, he grabbed her wrist, his warm lips pressing against her forehead.

"Alice, wait for me," he said gently.

That night, Natalie tossed and turned in bed, her heart heavy. He had given all his tenderness and affection to her, yet she wasn't really Alice as her name was Natalie.

Meanhile, news of Adrian's hundred-million-dollar pink diamond purchase quickly dominated online headlines. It wasn't until the next morning that Natalie saw the photo that took up almost the entire entertainment section on her phone. In the picture, Adrian held a woman close, whispering something in her ear, his eyes soft and a faint smile on his lips. The photo only showed the woman's back, yet Adrian's face was full of warmth. It was a picture of pure affection.

The accompanying text was full of praise. Adrian had spared no expense to make his fiancée happy, spending a fortune in one night. Natalie's fingers tightened around her phone as she looked at Adrian's gentle gaze in the photo, her vision slowly blurring.
