Chapter 761 Not Entirely Above Board
"In Aviara Town," Natalie started, "I was on this super busy street, packed with people. Never thought those kidnappers would be so gutsy to pull something in broad daylight. I got bumped, then blacked out. When I came to, there was a needle mark on my shoulder. They must've drugged me."
Yancy thought for a sec and said, "Yeah, I've heard about this. It's a trick they use in some places down southeast. They coat the needle tips with some strong sedative and go after women who are alone. Did you notice anything weird before it happened?"
Natalie looked down a bit. "Weird?"
She thought, 'I went to a hotel with Adrian, went upstairs, then hit the street in the evening. Nothing weird.'
Suddenly, something clicked in her mind.
Natalie said, "I checked into an inn with a friend as that's the only place left. They said there was only one room left, but when I went upstairs, the place wasn't even close to full. Must've been reserved. And two creepy guys kept staring at me. Thought they were just regular pervs."
Yancy said, "That hotel might be shady. What's its name? I'll have someone look into it."
Natalie replied, "Flower River."
Yancy nodded. "Girls gotta be careful out there. This stuff doesn't happen a lot, but you still gotta watch out. Those kidnappers, doing illegal stuff, probably have a whole system behind them. If they're bold enough to do this, they probably aren't scared of getting caught. Or, if you get away, they might destroy all the evidence right after. Bet the sedative in your system won't show up in a hospital test now."
Yancy ran a bar.
Bars usually bring to mind wild places filled with young folks and small-time troublemakers.
Once, Yancy saw a guy trying to drag a drunk woman out.
The woman was wasted, leaning on the guy.
Julian saw it and jumped in.
The guy said the woman was his girlfriend.
Julian didn't buy it and threatened to call the cops.
The guy let go and bolted.
Seeing the woman was super drunk, Julian took her to the hospital. The doc said she was drunk, but the next day, the woman thanked Julian a ton. She wasn't drunk at all; she had been drugged.
But regular medical tests couldn't catch it.
No evidence left behind.
Natalie felt a bit freaked out now and thought she and Anouk were really lucky. She let out a long breath.
Heather's palms were sweaty, too. "To celebrate Natalie's safe return, dinner's on me tonight! Let's feast!"
"Sure," Natalie agreed.
Yancy said, "No way I'm letting you pay. It's our first meet; dinner's on me."
Heather quickly said, "Awesome. I won't let you off!"
They hung out in the café a bit longer, finishing their coffee.
Yancy's friend's BBQ joint was opening tonight.
Yancy headed there with Natalie and Heather.
Natalie glanced at her phone. Adrian had sent her a message on Facebook, asking how she was.
Natalie replied: [A friend is treating us to dinner.]
Adrian quickly replied: [Cool. I'll pick you up tonight.]
Natalie: [Alright.]
Yancy's friend opened a BBQ spot called 119 on the new commercial street.
