Chapter 726 No Need to Worry
In the afternoon, Claire and a few close friends went for shopping. One of her friends needed to snag some jewelry as gifts, so Claire decided to roll with them. They ended up at a mall owned by the Howard Group.
After wandering around for a bit, they finally landed at a jewelry store under the Howard Group's umbrella.
Claire watched her friend pick out some bling and suddenly remembered something. She whipped out her phone to check and realized they were on Rainbow Glow Road.
Claire turned to the sales associate and asked, "Where's your manager?"
The sales associate looked a bit freaked out, not sure what she did to make Claire ask for the manager right off the bat. Seeing these rich ladies in front of her, she got a little nervous. "Ma'am, is there anything I can help you with?"
One of Claire's friends chuckled. "You don't even recognize your company's boss? Go get your manager here, now."
The manager showed up in no time. She took one look at Claire and knew exactly who she was. "Mrs. Howard, if you want any new items, just let me know, and I'll have them sent to your place."
The ladies with Claire were from some big-shot families in Vachilit.
The manager didn't want to mess up, so she quickly had the sales associates take care of them.
Claire remembered what Rachel had told her and asked, "Have you always been the manager here?"
The manager nodded. "Yes, Mrs. Howard."
The manager was in her thirties, and she'd been running the place for two years.
Claire asked, "Did someone claiming to be the hostress of the Howard Group come here to buy jewelry before?"
The manager thought for a sec and then replied, "Yeah, that did happen."
Claire pressed, "When?"
"It was a few months back." The manager looked at Claire, trying to figure out why she was asking. Did Claire think she hadn't handled it well last time and wanted to back up Alice? But it had been months; if Claire wanted to stand up for Alice, she wouldn't have waited this long.
Plus, to keep Alice happy back then, the manager had given her a set of high-end jewelry which ought to be sent to another customer.
Claire said, "Tell me, was Alice really that much of a pain when she came?"
The manager hesitated.
Claire said, "Just tell me. There won't be any consequences. Otherwise, I won't promise that."
The manager quickly spat, "Ms. Cullen had her eye on a set of pink shell crystal jewelry that Ms. Torres had ordered. It was pretty pricey, designed by a master, around $300,000. This set was supposed to go to Ms. Torres that day, but Ms. Cullen insisted on having it. She said if I didn't give it to her, she'd make sure I would lose my job right then. She also said she was the future hostress of the Howard Family, and it would be easy for her to fire me. But Ms. Torres is a regular at our store, and this set of jewelry was for her birthday party. I really had no choice, so I gave it to Ms. Cullen. I compensated Ms. Torres with another set, gave her a discount, and finally sent her a bracelet to smooth things over."
The manager paused for a second as though thinking if she should continue before she made up her mind and said,Actually, this isn't the first time we've had something like this happen at our store."
The manager added, "Even when dealing with powerful and influential people, we still follow the principle as we told. First come, first served. We usually handle it well, and almost every socialites are reasonable instead of Ms. Cullen. To put it frankly, when Ms. Cullen wants something, she has to have it."
The more Claire listened, the more she frowned. Alice really surprised her. So Rachel was telling the truth.
