Chapter 639 The Protagonist

Matthew had these green eyes. He grinned and said, "Hey, if you're free tonight, let's grab some dinner."

Natalie nodded. "Sure thing."

Juniper stood up. "Matthew, I'm Juniper. We met at a party once."

Matthew gave her a quick look, totally uninterested. "Sorry, I hit up too many parties. But hey, looking forward to your performance."

He threw out a couple of polite lines, then breezed past Juniper to Oscar. Matthew and Oscar were old buddies. They hugged it out, and Oscar grabbed Matthew's hand. "We've been waiting for you, man. You're the star."

Matthew smiled, did a quick intro, and then pulled out a chair to sit down.

Juniper's face fell. Her hand, still hanging in the air, felt like dead weight. She knew Matthew was a big shot in the screenwriting world, but he totally snubbed her and went straight to Natalie, who had a pretty scandalous rep. Juniper felt humiliated.

Maya saw Juniper's sour face and got the picture. Being in the industry for so long, Maya knew the producers were all about Natalie. Even though Natalie was a newbie with no major works, she was the lead, and the rest of them were just there to make her shine.

Maya felt a bit salty, too. She wondered if she had backed the wrong horse. She regretted giving that bracelet to Juniper; she should've cozied up to Natalie. Even though Juniper was a senior, Natalie was the star.

After a long day of script reading, Natalie stretched and packed her notebook. She nodded and said goodbye to a few producers, directors, and screenwriters, then got ready to leave.

Seeing Natalie get up, Matthew said, "Samuel, Natalie, why don't you two join Oscar and me for dinner? It's my first time in Vilniusky, and I've heard the food here is awesome."

Samuel nodded. Natalie glanced at Samuel and nodded, too.

Juniper wanted to say something but held back. It was clear that Matthew, Oscar, Samuel, and Natalie were a tight crew, which made it tough for Juniper to break in. Back in her room, Juniper angrily threw a coffee cup. Her agent quickly stopped her. "What are you doing?"

"Can't you see? Matthew's all over that Natalie. She's always in scandals, with constant leaks of explicit photos. Everyone knows she has a sugar daddy. Rising Winds is just a vehicle to promote Natalie. We're all just here to support her. I thought Oscar and Matthew were above all this, but they're just selling out for money and investment. Did you see how chummy Matthew was with Natalie? He's an award-winning screenwriter for crying out loud. Gross!"

"Alright, keep it down," the agent quickly said, "The soundproofing in this hotel sucks. If someone hears you, you'll get in trouble."

Juniper shouted, "So what? Let them hear. Worst case, I quit this show."

The agent frowned. "What are you talking about? Do you know how many actors would kill for a role in a film directed by Oscar and written by Matthew? Your arch-rival auditioned for this role too, and you got it. This film's box office revenue won't be less than $2 billion. With that, you'll get several magazine covers and endorsements."
