Chapter 531 Provocation
But Alice wasn't budging.
Avery griped to Curtis, "It's all Natalie's fault. If it weren't for her, Alice wouldn't be getting roasted like this."
Curtis frowned but kept his mouth shut. He was sweating bullets about the Cullen Group's stock price tanking. Plus, as her dad, seeing Alice get dragged online was killing him.
Avery called out, "Alice, come on out. We can figure this out together. Ignore the haters. The doc said you need to chill. We're all super worried about you."
Lately, all the drama had cranked up Alice's jealousy towards Natalie. She was so mad she could scream.
After about ten minutes, Alice finally opened the door, eyes all puffy, and threw herself into Avery's arms. "Mom."
She broke down crying.
Avery hugged her tight.
In the study.
The three of them plopped down on the sofa, and Avery ranted, "You care more about the Cullen Group than us! If that's the case, you can live with your precious company! I'll take Alice, and we can separate!"
Curtis snapped, "What are you even saying!"
Avery was just blowing off steam. She couldn't really leave Curtis.
If she divorced him now, she'd only get a tiny slice of the stock. And she was sure Curtis would marry some younger, hotter chick and maybe even go after Rosalie.
Curtis said, "Avery, I'm worried about Alice, too. Alice, the best move now is to post an apology on Facebook. This whole mess started because you went off on that marketing account and it blew up. A young lady should be classy and well-spoken. What you said was way out of line. Remember, you're the future mistress of the Howard family. You need to tone down the bratty behavior. Everything you do reflects on both the Howard and Cullen families!"
Alice sobbed, "Dad, what do I do now?" She was spoiled and pampered her whole life. Avery adored her and never let her face any hardship. The constant online hate was freaking her out, and her jealousy towards Natalie was off the charts.
Curtis's company had a top-notch PR team. Seeing Alice in distress, Curtis was desperate and got his PR team on it. He told Alice, "Post on Facebook right now. Be sweet and apologize to Natalie. Say you two are good friends and were just messing around. In a few days, people will move on. After three months, when you're back on your feet, you can return to the entertainment scene. By then, no one will remember this."
Alice looked up. Apologizing to Natalie? No way. If she was gonna apologize, this wouldn't have blown up in the first place.
Actually, Alice was torn.
The online hate was brutal.
She was scared her past would get dug up.
Alice cried out, "I wasn't wrong, Dad. Natalie started it!"
Curtis was at his wit's end with Alice. He knew the whole story, and it wasn't Natalie's fault. It all started with Alice's jealousy.
But she was his only daughter. Even if she was wrong, he had to have her back.
