Chapter 435 Each Takes What They Need
"Not really," Yvonne said, clearly clued in on the latest drama at the Howard Group. "But Mr. Howard's got the spotlight on him. If he doesn't tie the knot with Alice, he's gonna get roasted."
Natalie kept quiet, so Yvonne, thinking she was out of the loop, kept going. "Those gossip rags are ruthless. They love a juicy headline."
She went on, "Even if the Howard Group clears things up, someone will just post an apology and delete it the next day. By then, the damage is done. Big media outlets are careful 'cause they don't wanna mess with the Howards, but the small ones? They're like ants. One bite's nothing, but a swarm? That's a problem. You squash one group, another pops up."
Natalie finally said, "Yvonne, you sure know a lot."
Yvonne sighed, "My sister works for a second-rate entertainment site. Her boss makes them churn out trending stories every day. Rumors are just how it goes, and everyone's chasing that cash. Dealing with the big shots is a breeze, but when the little guys team up? It's a whole different story."
Natalie stayed silent.
Yvonne squatted down. "Natalie, do you even like Mr. Howard? If not, why not use your youth to your advantage? Karen's plan isn't bad. Get famous, make money. Everyone in showbiz is after the same thing. Use Mr. Howard to get better gigs. Who cares if he gets married? Women don't need men to get by. You're young; focus on your career."
Natalie looked at Yvonne, pinched her cheek, and smiled. "You're right. Who he likes or marries doesn't matter. We're just using each other."
Natalie thought, 'Yeah, just using each other. A young girl can see it, but I get tangled up.'
Natalie clenched her fist.
Mindy handed her some script outlines. "These are for the show our company’s planning. Mr. Howard said you have full control."
Natalie was surprised. She thought Adrian would pick a role for her, but he let her choose.
Natalie looked through them, and Mindy said, "This one's by Felix Parker. He's a director we work with a lot. He’s great with the big picture. The budget's small, but the story's solid."
Natalie skimmed it; it was kinda funny.
Mindy continued, "This one's good too, a college drama with an e-sports twist. That's been hot lately. The team’s solid, and the director and writer have worked with us before."
"And this one."
Out of a dozen scripts, Mindy picked three.
Mindy said, "These three start shooting next month, in twenty days. You can chill until then. I’ll set up some promo ads and magazine shoots for you. Someone will handle your Facebook."
Over the weekend, Natalie wrapped up her scenes and then opened Facebook to post a pic.
In this movie, the main cast were all newbies. The big draw was Esme's new youth art film. Natalie didn’t have many scenes. Esme usually worked with Samantha, and with Natalie, she only shot a dozen scenes. Most of her scenes were with Chris.
Luna’s role wrapped up.
The crew got a cake.
The photographer said, "Chris, just put your hand on Natalie's shoulder. Don't be too stiff."
Chris put his arm around Natalie's shoulder. "Like this?"
