Chapter 487 More Like Him
After a couple of minutes, a woman in her forties rushed over and grabbed the old lady's hand. "Mrs. Murphy, you snuck up to the second floor without a word. I've been searching for you everywhere."
Deborah Powell said, "Ariel, I just met this girl. She seems pretty cool."
Ariel Hughes helped Deborah into the elevator, listening to her recount the recent events. "From what you said, that girl sounds pretty awesome."
"Yeah, and she's quite the looker too." Deborah grinned. "Let's head back; Claire's waiting at home."
The car cruised all the way and finally pulled up at the Howard Mansion. Deborah got out and strolled into the living room. Claire came over to support her. "Mom, if you need anything, just have Ariel get it for you. Why go yourself?"
Deborah said, "I haven't been to Vachilit in ages. I wanted to stretch my legs a bit."
Deborah smiled. "Where's Adrian? When's he coming back?"
Claire replied, "I called him, but Brice picked up and said he was in a meeting."
Deborah said, "It's good for young folks to stay busy."
Claire was naturally proud of her son. "But he shouldn't be too busy. Ruben handed over the Howard Group to him, and he's been coming home less and less this week."
Deborah came back this time for Adrian and Alice's wedding. She hadn't come earlier due to health issues. When she heard Alice had a miscarriage and broke her bones saving Claire, she always wanted to come over and see Alice. It got delayed until now when she felt better.
Claire said, "I talked with Mrs. Cullen before. The original plan was to wait until Alice recovered to hold the wedding, but Mrs. Cullen seems to be in a hurry and wants to do it sooner."
Deborah said, "It's normal for them to want the wedding sooner. After all, Alice lost her child saving you. We should make it up to the Cullen family."
Claire sighed. "I get it. I think Alice is pretty great too. She saved Adrian back then. But..." She remembered Adrian's attitude towards Alice and felt a bit worried.
Deborah asked, "But what?" She had seen photos of Alice, who was quite pretty. Saving Claire in a dangerous situation showed she was a kind girl. The Howard family was big and wealthy, and the Murphy Group had a long history. Although the Cullen family was average, the Howard family didn't care about that. As long as Alice was kind and had a clean background, it was fine.
Plus, the most important thing was that Adrian liked her.
Claire didn't hold back. "Mom, you don't know. Adrian's attitude towards Alice is kinda weird. I liked her at first, but later I felt she was different sometimes. Sometimes she's sweet and generous, but other times she's a bit sharp and harsh, like two different people."
Deborah said, "You're overthinking it. As parents, we shouldn't meddle too much in our kids' affairs. When you wanted to marry Joe, I wasn't thrilled either."
Recalling the past, Deborah's face darkened.
Claire laughed. "Mom, it's been so many years, and you still remember."
Deborah had set up many dates and meetings with noble young men for Claire back then, but Claire only had eyes for the gentle Joe.
Although Joe was Ruben's favored son, he had no interest in the company's affairs or the power struggles within the Howard Group. But in the end, the Howard Group still ended up in Joe's son Adrian's hands.
Even though Adrian was Joe's son, they had completely different temperaments. Adrian was more like Ruben.
