Chapter 822 Taken as a Godson
Adrian was probably just playing it safe or trying to save face. After all, John had done a lot for the Howard family. Plus, Ruben was still around, so if things got messy, John could always ask Ruben to look out for his kid.
John told Carlos, "You and Alice need to cut ties right now. Keep an eye on her. If things get out of hand, end it fast."
Carlos replied, "Dad, Alice is pregnant with my kid. If I ditch her, she might come after me, and things will get crazy. There's no way to just cut ties."
John's face darkened. He knew Carlos had been with Alice a lot, but he didn't expect both of her pregnancies to be his doing.
John's power wasn't strong enough yet, and with Ruben still alive, he couldn't act recklessly. Even though he had some connections, he couldn't go up against Adrian. Plus, Donte was always lurking around.
John sighed, "Alright, keep Alice stable. This is the last time. I'll clean up your mess, but don't make any more decisions on your own! Now, tell me everything about this situation."
After Carlos finished his report on the situation, John frowned. "You've got Eudora's son locked up in the underground casino?"
Carlos nodded, and John's expression grew even darker.
Carlos trembled, scared John might hit him again.
John said, "Kneel here and think about what you've done. You're not getting involved in the rest of this."
John stood up and walked out; he had to fix Carlos's mess.
That night, John went to the casino.
As soon as the staff saw him, they took him to the room where Eudora's son, Clayton Kelly, was being held.
Clayton had lost $20 million in two days. He'd always been rebellious and did poorly in school, constantly nagged by his dad and Eudora. Unable to handle the pressure, a bad friend lured him to the casino to relax. But gambling was addictive, and Clayton kept losing, then winning, and losing again, eventually falling into a deep pit, gambling with Carlos and losing everything. The $20 million debt scared him so much he fainted. John knew Carlos had rigged the game to threaten Eudora.
John entered the room.
Clayton, still a kid, was terrified of strangers.
In just one day of being held there, he was panicked and confused.
John smiled and said, "Clayton, I've already told your mom. She'll be here soon to take you home."
"Really?" Clayton had been scared to tears over the past two days.
John said, "This was all a misunderstanding. I've cleared it up. The $20 million debt you owed is wiped clean. I'll talk to your mom about it."
Clayton said, "Thank you. It's very kind of you."
John was old enough to be Clayton's dad. Even though John was a one-eyed man, at this moment, he seemed kind to Clayton, who thanked him profusely, almost kneeling in gratitude.
John said, "I own this casino. How about this? I'll take you in as my godson."
