Chapter 1333 He Faced Life and Death Calmly

"Hey, kid, how old are you? You look younger than me. Let me tell you about the world outside Emberfall City."

Elmer glanced at her, his hands slowly clenching.

Rachel noticed his reaction and saw an opportunity.

"You've probably never been outside, have you?"

Elmer hadn't celebrated his 20th birthday yet. He had been living on this island for 12 years.

In his early years, he had sought medical treatment, but even the specialists couldn't find a good solution.

He had a rare genetic disorder.

Exposure to sunlight during the day would cause him to go blind.

His health was deteriorating.

His immune system was weak, and even a slight breeze could give him a cold and fever.

"What's it like outside?" His pupils contracted slightly, as if he were deep in thought.

"It's amazing out there. There's everything you can imagine, and it's way bigger than Emberfall City. There are skyscrapers and bustling streets. Don't you want to see it?"

Rachel knew she couldn't get anywhere with Isaac, so she decided to try her luck with Elmer.

Elmer seemed to understand her intentions and let out a faint chuckle. "Don't waste your efforts on me. The doctors said I won't live past 25. That's why my dad wants me to get married so badly. I want to go out, but I can't."

Rachel hadn't expected him to face life and death so calmly.

He spoke about not living past 25 as if it were nothing.

She was taken aback. "How old are you now?"

After asking, Rachel bit her lip. How could she ask such a thing?

Elmer lowered his gaze and said softly, "I'm 20."

For some reason, Rachel felt a pang of sympathy for him, seeing his frail state. But it only lasted a few seconds before she quickly dismissed it. She needed to get out of here. Why should she feel sorry for the kidnapper's son?

"Medical technology is advancing quickly. Maybe, just maybe... they'll find a way to treat your condition soon."

Elmer continued reading, ignoring Rachel.

Rachel returned to the couch, which faced the desk. When she looked up, she could see Elmer.

She had to admit, Elmer was quite handsome.

She couldn't believe that Isaac had such a good-looking son. He must have inherited it from his mother.

She looked down at her tablet, where a horror movie was playing. A scary face suddenly appeared, and Rachel screamed, her heart nearly leaping out of her chest. She covered her eyes and wrapped herself in a blanket, trembling.

Elmer heard the noise and looked up at her.

Seeing her shivering under the blanket, he couldn't help but smile slightly.

"Pathetic."

"What?" Rachel's sharp ears caught it.

Rachel peeked out from under the blanket. "What did you just say? I heard you. This is a horror movie, it's really scary. If you watched it, you'd be just as scared as me!"

Elmer replied, "I didn't make you watch it!"

"If I don't watch it, you won't talk to me. It's so boring." Rachel pouted. "You're just scared and making excuses."

Elmer's eyebrows furrowed.

Rachel looked at him and mouthed, "Coward!"

The provocation worked, especially since Elmer had never encountered anyone who dared to speak to him like that.

This Rachel, in just two days, had already made herself at home.

He read his book while she watched horror movies.

When she got scared, she called him a coward.
