Heather hung up and turned to Natalie. "Natalie, are we seriously just gonna throw in the towel like this?"
Natalie clenched her fingers a bit. "Heather, maybe I'm just not cut out for this role."
Heather shook her head. "Natalie, Alice is totally doing this on purpose. She's got a ton of roles and resources, but she picked yours. It's straight-up bullying."
Natalie let out a soft sigh. "Alice is gonna be the future queen bee of the Howard family. Dynamic Entertainment is just a piece of the Howard Group pie, and Herman's not about to cross her. And me? I'm just Adrian's side chick, easily replaceable. If I were Herman, I'd make the same call."
"Natalie." Heather grabbed Natalie's hand. "Mindy's never gonna fight for us."
After hanging out with Mindy for a while, Natalie got the picture.
Mindy was manipulative, delighting in making sure entertainers did exactly what she wanted. She took pleasure in gaining power and getting those respectful looks. Even though Mindy was a big shot in the industry, most of her clout came from Dynamic Entertainment Media's connections. She didn't team up with Natalie out of some burning desire to mentor her.
Plus, Mindy's nemesis was Karen.
Mindy had decided to sign Natalie so quickly just to contend with Karen in worry about he snagging the VP spot at Dynamic Entertainment.
Mindy was sharp and always looking for an angle. But sometimes, being too clever could backfire.
Mindy not only wanted Natalie to toe the line but also wanted to separate Heather from Natalie. Natalie knew this, but Mindy hadn't made a move yet. Doing so without a good reason wouldn't fly.
Natalie said, "Heather, you can go now. I'm beat and need some rest."
Heather nodded. "Nat, get some good rest. Hit me up if you need anything."
As Heather reached the door, Natalie said softly, "Don't bug Ms. Richardson anymore. Don'tpressure her. When it comes to big money, everyone has to play along. It's not her fault. Also, let's go with So Long for the next movie like you suggested. Keep me in the loop on the details. Cancel all my press releases, interviews, and magazine shoots for the next two months. I wanna focus on filming. If Mindy calls to check on me, don't freak out. Cancel all the press stuff she set up, too."
Heather replied, "Got it."
Frank had been missing for a week, like he vanished into thin air.
Yancy was out of the hospital, and Blue Bar was back to normal, but Frank and Ava were nowhere to be found.
The last anyone heard from Frank was a text Ava sent to Julian.
Julian and Yancy went to Skyline Apartments 502, but the place was already cleaned out. The landlord was a middle-aged woman. She seemed to know something but was too scared to talk, keeping her lips sealed.
Seeing Julian and Yancy, she just kept shaking her head, saying she didn't know anything and telling them to leave.
"He's our buddy. We've been looking for him for a week and found out he and his girlfriend lived here. You're the landlord; you gotta know something," Julian said, pulling out some cash from his wallet and handing it to her.
The landlord looked at the money but didn't take it. Yancy said, "Our friend is missing, and we're really worried. If you know anything, please tell us."
