Chapter 253 The Cullen Family Dinner (2)
Claire was chatting with Avery and Curtis in the living room, exchanging pleasantries. Avery pulled out a high-quality diamond bracelet and handed it to her. "I bought this a few days ago. It's pretty nice."
Claire took it without much enthusiasm, as she already had plenty of similar bracelets. "It's nice. Mrs. Cullen, I didn't bring any gifts, and now I'm taking your stuff."
Avery smiled. "Mrs. Howard, don't worry about it. As long as you like it. I thought it would suit you the moment I saw it."
Adrian stepped onto the small balcony, lit a cigarette, and opened the window. He looked at the closed door of the house opposite, which seemed desolate, with only a bare cherry tree. He frowned slightly.
Just then, the maid Lizzy was cleaning the hallway. She opened the balcony door and saw Adrian. Startled, she quickly said, "Sorry, Mr. Howard, I didn't know you were here..."
Adrian asked, "Where's the person who used to live here?"
"Mr. Howard, you mean Natalie?" Lizzy said, "She moved out a week ago."
"She moved out?" Adrian's frown deepened. "Where did she go?"
Lizzy replied, "I'm not sure."
Adrian left the balcony. Minutes later, Lizzy was still standing there, shaken by Adrian's cold demeanor. She remembered some ambiguous things between Adrian and Natalie. Could Adrian really have feelings for Natalie?
She took out her phone and texted Natalie: [Natalie, where did you move to?]
Alice was thrilled to know Adrian and Claire had arrived. In her bedroom, she tried on dress after dress, but none seemed right. These dresses were new, bought just last month, but now some didn't even fit. Outside the door, Renee urged her. "Ms. Cullen, Mrs. Cullen wants you to hurry up."
Alice changed into a light pink dress and came downstairs. "Hello, Aunt Claire."
Claire glanced at her. "Oh dear, why are you wearing high heels? You should be more careful in your condition."
Alice had forgotten to be careful, especially since the pink dress looked best with high heels. Avery gave her a disapproving look, and Alice quickly said, "Oh, I'll change them right away."
Claire looked around. "Where's Adrian?"
Lizzy said, "I just saw Mr. Howard on the balcony."
A couple of seconds later, Adrian walked over. "Mom."
Alice was coming downstairs and greeted him, "Adrian."
Adrian looked up and saw Alice had changed into a beige and brown plaid dress. Her hair was down, and she wore light makeup. He was momentarily stunned.
Alice looked somewhat like Natalie in this outfit.
They had dinner at the Cullen's house. After dinner, Claire and Avery chatted in the living room, and Claire specifically told Adrian to take Alice for a walk outside.
Outside the Cullen's villa, Adrian's pace was slow, but Alice had to quicken her steps just to keep up.
Adrian didn't speak, and despite Alice's attempts to strike up conversation, each one seemed to fizzle out. Adrian's cold demeanor made her uneasy.
Alice thought, 'Does Adrian know something? Did Natalie say something to him before she left?'
The more Alice thought about it, the more anxious she became.
Finally, she broke the silence, her voice tinged with apprehension, "Adrian, have I done something to upset you lately?"
Adrian's voice was gentle, but his eyes were emotionless as he replied, "No, don't overthink it."
