Chapter 1329 The Face After Removing Makeup

What's wrong with not looking in the mirror?

She'd been kidnapped and thrown onto a boat, barely getting any food. Looking in the mirror was the least of her worries; she was lucky she hadn't starved to death.

He raised his hand and pointed to the bathroom.

Rachel walked in.

Standing in front of the mirror, Rachel's eyes widened.

She could hardly believe it. The person staring back at her had gaunt cheeks, cracked lips, and messy, oily hair with dry ends.

But the worst part was...

Rachel had put on meticulously done heavy makeup when she went out shopping with Beatrix.

Now, several days had passed, and the foundation had long worn off, but the smudged pink eyeshadow and eyeliner remained, making her look like she'd been punched in both eyes.

Rachel couldn't believe that the person in the mirror was herself.

Thinking about how she'd been here for two days with this unwashed, smudged face, she felt a wave of embarrassment that made her skin crawl.

No wonder Elmer had been looking at her so strangely.

She sniffed her clothes.

She'd been wearing the same outfit for several days without changing, and it was starting to smell.

Rachel turned on the faucet and began washing her face, tears streaming down her cheeks.

As she cried, her sobs grew louder, and she couldn't hold back her emotions any longer.

She had just been out at the market and ended up encountering traffickers.

Now she was in this unfamiliar place.

She didn't have her phone and couldn't contact her family.

She wondered how worried Ruben must be, knowing she was missing. Ruben was getting older; what if he exhausted himself looking for her?

Her parents, Adrian, and Natalie must be searching for her everywhere.

Jamie, if you hadn't hung up on me, would I have been sold?

If she had called Adrian or Natalie, or even the police, would she have been saved?

But she had called Jamie.

And she had heard Andrea's voice on the phone.

Outside the bathroom, Elmer was changing clothes. A ray of sunlight slipped through the curtains and fell on the bed, causing him to pause. He raised his hand to cover his eyes and slowly walked to the window, closing the gap in the curtains to block the light.

He put on his shoes, ready to head to the study upstairs, when he heard the sound coming from the bathroom.

The sound of running water mixed with crying.

Elmer froze.

He knew how this woman had ended up here and was aware of Isaac's shady dealings. But what did it matter? It had nothing to do with him. Whether he married or not, and to whom, it made no difference in his condition.

The women Isaac had brought to the house before, he had agreed to marry.

But those women hadn't even seen his face before they cried and threatened to kill themselves rather than agree.

No one wanted to marry him, the "monster," the "blind man," the "cursed one" who was supposedly on the brink of death.

Elmer walked out.

A servant brought breakfast to the study.

Rachel cried for a long time before she calmed down. She removed her makeup and took a shower. She had no clothes to wear, and there were no clothes in the room that fit her.

She opened the man's wardrobe.

Despite Elmer being very thin, he was tall.

She found a black long-sleeve T-shirt that reached below her hips when she put it on.

Rachel also found a pair of black pants, rolled up the cuffs, and although the outfit looked a bit mismatched, it was the best she could do.
