Chapter 846 Conflict Erupts

Avery scowled. "Get Curtis on the phone, now!"

The secretary, looking a bit nervous, said, "Mr. Cullen is in a meeting."

"I don't care!" Avery snapped, letting out all the frustration he'd been bottling up. The secretary, gripping the phone tightly, endured the outburst and finally said, "I'll have Curtis call you back within ten minutes, or else..."

After hanging up, she wiped away her tears and headed to the office.

Curtis was indeed in a meeting.

He'd gone straight into it as soon as he got back to the company and had made it clear—no interruptions, not even from Avery.

Half an hour later, the meeting finally wrapped up.

Curtis, looking worn out, walked back to his office.

He saw his secretary, Skylar Tate, with red, puffy eyes.

She whimpered, "Mr. Cullen, you're finally done with the meeting."

Curtis, already stressed from dealing with Alice's situation, felt his irritation spike. "What's going on? Just tell me."

Skylar handed him the phone. "You got a call from Mrs. Cullen. She was really upset and yelled at me. I told her you were in a meeting, but she insisted you call her back immediately, or else..."

"Or else what?"

"She never said," Skylar said, choking up.

Curtis waved his hand in frustration and threw a cup on the floor. "This is ridiculous!"

The cup, didn't break, but water spilled all over the carpet. Skylar quickly picked it up and put it back on the table.

Curtis checked his phone and saw a missed call from half an hour ago. He called Avery back.

As soon as the call connected, Avery, who had been stewing for half an hour, let loose. "What the hell, Curtis! Calling me back so late! Do you even care about me anymore?"

Curtis tried to keep his cool. "Avery, stop being unreasonable."

"Unreasonable? How am I being unreasonable? Curtis, remember how much our family helped you when you started your business? Now that you're successful, you start yelling at me. You never used to talk to me like this!" Avery was at her breaking point, torn by the trouble of Alice's condition and the Howard family's withdrawal from the engagement. Meanwhile, Curtis was always at the company, seemingly ignoring everything, with a young female secretary by his side. She found everything frustrating.

Avery shouted, "Curtis, How have I wronged you? It's you who have wronged me! Alice ended up like this, but you don't care at all. Do you know how much pain I'm in? All you care about is the company. Is the company that important? Alice and I are your family!"

Curtis felt his anger boiling over.

He couldn't hold it in any longer. "Alice ended up like this because of you! It's your vanity and greed! Look at what you've turned her into. She bullied others since she was a kid, took Natalie's things, and blamed Natalie. You've raised her to be so arrogant and domineering."
