Chapter 1077 Natalie Wakes Up
Curtis hadn't shown up for a week since the divorce with Avery, so why was he back today? Renee was baffled and said, "Mrs. Cullen isn't here; she went out."
Curtis walked in, slapped the divorce papers on the table, and asked, "Where'd she go?"
Renee looked down. "I don't know."
Just then, the TV news came on. "At 10 AM this morning, there was a car accident on the Vachilit Luminary Overpass. A black Mercedes collided with a white car. The driver of the black car is suspected of attempted murder and has been taken into custody by the police. The injured have been retrieved from the lake and sent to the hospital, but their condition is unknown."
Curtis froze, staring at the screen. 'That license plate looks familiar,' he thought.
The license plate of the black car wasn't blurred out.
'Isn't that the Cullen family's car? Avery? Did Avery drive it?' he wondered.
Curtis pulled out his phone and called Avery twice, but she didn't pick up.
Panic started to set in. 'Avery wouldn't do something so crazy, would she?' he thought.
Just then, the company's lawyer called.
Curtis answered. "Hello, what's going on?"
"Mr. Cullen, something terrible has happened!" The lawyer sounded frantic. "Mrs. Cullen has been taken into custody for suspected attempted murder. She deliberately crashed her car into Mr. Adrian Howard and Mrs. Natalie Howard's car. They're in the hospital, fighting for their lives. We don't know all the details yet."
Curtis staggered back, almost losing his balance. He gripped his phone tightly. "What did you say? Who did she hit?"
"Mr. Adrian Howard and Mrs. Natalie Howard."
Curtis's face went pale.
Renee, seeing Curtis's reaction, knew something serious had happened involving Avery. She didn't dare to speak and watched as Curtis hurriedly left.
Renee took out her phone and tried calling Avery, but there was no answer.
'What happened to Mrs. Cullen?' Renee wondered. If something happened to Avery, Renee wouldn't be able to keep her job at the Cullen Mansion. With her qualifications, finding another job as a maid or servant wouldn't be easy, and the pay wouldn't be as good. Plus, she'd have to take orders from others.
Three days later.
In the ICU, a nurse was changing Natalie's medication. The medicine dripped into the IV bottle and slowly entered Natalie's body. After finishing, the nurse checked Natalie's condition and made some notes.
At that moment, Natalie's fingers twitched, and her eyelashes fluttered slightly.
The nurse knew Natalie might be waking up. This was a very important patient, and any change had to be reported immediately to the attending physician.
Natalie opened her eyes.
The nurse exclaimed with joy, "Mrs. Howard, you're awake!"
The doctor, having received the call, rushed over immediately.
Several specialists gathered around Natalie's bed.
Natalie opened her eyes, feeling pain all over her body. Her head seemed immobile, and her arms wouldn't move. She tried to lift her hand but found her arm unresponsive. She wanted to speak, but her throat was dry and sore, and her brain buzzed. She could only breathe shallowly.
The doctor examined her and held up a hand in front of her. "Can you hear my voice? If you can, blink once."
