Chapter 23 Scheming for Power

Early the next morning, Natalie woke up feeling sore all over. She looked around in shock, realizing she was naked in bed next to Adrian. The events of last night were painfully clear, yet her mind was a blank.

Just then, Adrian opened his eyes, his gaze deep and intense. He scanned the room before locking eyes with her. "Natalie!" he growled through gritted teeth.

Natalie snapped back to reality. This was after the ball. She was Natalie, and she shouldn't be here. Her lips trembled, but no words came out. Finally, she managed to stammer, "Mr. Howard."

Adrian got up, picked up his clothes from the floor, and dressed, his expression dark and stormy. Suddenly, he noticed the burnt-out incense on the nightstand. His eyes narrowed, and he grabbed Natalie by the throat. "Was this your doing?"

"No," Natalie croaked, shaking her head repeatedly. She hadn't done it!

Adrian's face remained cold. As the blanket slipped, he saw the scars on her back, making his anger flare even more. The same scars, the same place—no wonder he lost control last night. It wasn't just the incense; he had mistaken her for Alice!

He released her roughly and warned, "Don't you dare tell anyone about this. If Alice finds out, I won't let you off! I have ways to make you disappear from Vachilit!"

He couldn't believe it. Alice had been right—Natalie was just a vain woman using despicable means to get close to him. Her innocence and vulnerability were all an act, much like her scheming to get close to Daniel!

Feeling utterly deceived, Adrian's rage peaked. He shoved Natalie back onto the bed. She coughed violently, her body aching even more as she clutched the thin blanket.

After dressing, Adrian wiped his hand with a towel, threw it on the floor, and stepped on it with disdain before storming out.

Natalie shivered in fear. The coldness in Adrian's eyes when he had grabbed her throat was bone-chilling. It felt as if he could really make her "disappear from Vachilit."

She hurriedly got dressed and took a cab home. Once there, she rushed to the bathroom, trying to wash away the marks on her body, but the hickeys wouldn't come off. Hugging herself, she cried silently.

Last time, she had willingly gotten into his bed to save her mother, then what about this time? What exactly had happened this time?

She hadn't drunk any alcohol last night, but she had felt hot and dizzy. Memories of last night flooded her mind. It was understandable that she slept with Adrian in that state, but she couldn't deny that she knew it was him.

He must hate her now, right?
