Chapter 178 Tiramisu
Adrian observed the upward curve of "Alice's" lips; she seemed to be stifling a laugh. He felt a bit embarrassed but also found it somewhat amusing. He coughed and turned his face aside. "If you're bored, you can stroll around the yard. I live in Maple Grove Estates, and I can have a servant take you there."
In Mr. Howard's study, Donte sat on the sofa. "Grandpa, I'm back. This time, I plan to stay for a few days. I'll return at the end of the month."
Donte's handsome, deep-set features made him rather attractive. It was precisely because of his profound eyes, coupled with his medium-length dark brown hair, that he looked like a gentleman.
He had also inherited the excellent genes of the Howard family. Among the brothers, there was a certain resemblance in their features.
"Stay a few more days. Jamie has also returned. You should gather more often." Ruben said, showing particular appreciation for Donte. Donte's father, Herman Howard, was his eldest son. When the Howard family divided their assets, Herman insisted on managing the southern division, which was a crucial economic zone for the Howard family.
"I know, I will." Donte replied. "I've brought back your favorite pastries and some authentic wine. My mother made the wine. She has learned quite a bit over the years in the South, and this year she learned winemaking. You must try it."
"That's very thoughtful." Ruben nodded.
"Have you met Alice? She is Adrian's fiancée. They recently held their engagement ceremony."
"Yeah, I have met her. She is a very beautiful lady. I was very busy earlier this year and couldn't attend the ceremony, but I will definitely be there for their wedding."
Donte played chess with Ruben in the study, losing each time. He wasn't intentional; Donte was simply not very skilled at chess, while Ruben was an expert.
"Grandpa, you are indeed still in your prime."
Ruben lowered his eyes. "Donte, you know I despise sibling rivalry. I'm old, but as long as I'm alive, I like to see a harmonious family."
Donte straightened up. "You are right. I will certainly remember that."
Could it be that Ruben knew Adrian had just returned to the country because Donte had someone drug Adrian?
Seeing Ruben's expression, Donte braced himself to respond.
Ruben waved his hand. "I'm tired. I'll rest for a while and then prepare for dinner."
"Then I'll take my leave."
Donte stood up and walked to the door, but Ruben suddenly called him back, saying, "Have the butler call Jamie and Daniel. Since the family is all here, let's have a reunion."
"Sure."
Leaving the study, Donte lifted his eyes, pondering Ruben's subtle warning. Slowly, he curled his lips. His assistant, Ernest Bell, had acted meticulously. Adrian had no evidence to hold against him. Even if it reached Ruben, Adrian would have no proof.
At 5 PM, the Howard family's servants were busily preparing dinner.
After Claire returned, she chatted briefly with Natalie, then got up and went to the kitchen, with Natalie following her.
Claire washed her hands. "Adrian went to Verono when he was nineteen. I was worried he wouldn't get used to living there, so I made him a lot of pastries before he left. He loves my tiramisu the most."
Natalie washed her hands and helped out. She carefully and skillfully stirred the cheese. Claire was a bit surprised. "You can make this, too?"
Natalie smiled. "Well, I learned from the servants at home. But the taste might be different from yours."
Claire laughed and said, "Then you make it today. Adrian and I will try it."
