Chapter 103 The Unsettling Encounter
Natalie had not anticipated his sudden proximity. The abruptness of his approach left her startled and unsure of how to respond. Her mind involuntarily drifted back to the banquet where she was mistakenly identified as Jagger's girlfriend.
A blush crept up her cheeks, and she hastily muttered a "goodnight" before making a hasty retreat from the car.
Jagger watched her retreating figure, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. It appeared he had once again managed to frighten her away. Shaking his head, he drove off into the night...
Simultaneously, a sleek black Bentley pulled up in front of the grand Cullen Villa.
Adrian alighted from the car and was surprised to see Natalie, clad in a sky-blue dress, emerging from a black Hyundai. She was circling the Cullen Villa, her movements catching his attention.
His eyes narrowed as he recalled her image from earlier that night, clinging to Jagger's arm with a radiant smile. A sudden feeling of unease stirred within him.
Alice, after a moment of hesitation, extended an invitation. "Adrian, let's go in."
"It's late. I won't be joining," he responded, his tone indifferent.
Alice was puzzled. She had spent considerable effort persuading him to accompany her home, and now that they were both out of the car, he was changing his mind again?
She wanted to question him, but the icy look in Adrian's eyes silenced her. Instead, she offered a gentle smile, "Well, Adrian, see you tomorrow."
"Also, your aunt wants to take you to the hospital for a check-up tomorrow."
Alice was taken aback, "Tomorrow? So soon?" Realizing her reaction was inappropriate, she quickly masked her panic, "My mom took me there last week. The baby is still small. I don't need to go often now. Could you please inform my aunt..."
As Adrian's penetrating gaze swept over her, Alice felt a shiver run down her spine. The Howard family placed great importance on their lineage. The sudden insistence on a check-up was a clear indication of their unease.
Reluctantly, she agreed, "Alright, I'll trouble her tomorrow then."
Adrian nodded, his gaze deepening as if recalling something. "Alice, do you remember our meeting at the Four Seasons Hotel two months ago?"
"I do. What about it?" Alice responded.
Adrian retrieved a cigarette, holding it between his fingers. The flickering flame cast an air of mystery around him. "You mentioned that day you were celebrating a friend's birthday at the hotel?"
"Yes," Alice replied, her voice uncertain. She peered into Adrian's eyes, feeling as though she was being drawn into their depths. Her nervousness heightened as she struggled to understand why Adrian was bringing up the past.
"Which room number?" Adrian probed, his gaze unwavering. He didn't miss a single one of her expressions, including the fleeting panic that flashed in her eyes.
Taking a puff of his cigarette, the smoke momentarily veiled his handsome face. Alice scrambled to concoct a plausible excuse. "It was my best friend's brother's birthday. I joined the celebration, but I can't recall the room number."
Carlos' face was obscured by the smoke, leaving Alice unable to discern his expression. She could only hear his voice, unable to determine whether he was angry or pleased. "You celebrated a man's birthday? Alice, that would make me jealous."
Alice's anxiety subsided upon hearing this. She responded shyly, "Adrian, I wasn't alone with him. I was with several friends."
"Is that so?" Adrian's face broke into a knowing smile as he extinguished his cigarette. "Alright, go rest now."
He remembered the information Brice had uncovered.
That day, there was no birthday celebration at the Four Seasons Hotel. If there had been a large-scale party, the hotel would have prepared a cake in advance. But there was none.
The eighth floor, where Adrian had been, was reserved for high-level business clients.
On that day, only twelve people were staying on the eighth floor.
Among those twelve was Adrian.
