Chapter 1348 He Knows, She Doesn't Belong Here

"Hey, let's hit up the night market," he suggested.

"Seriously?" Rachel handed him his sunglasses, looking surprised. "I thought you were mad and about to drag me back home."

"It's not often we get out. Didn't you say you wanted to check out the night market?" He knew she was tired of being stuck at home, bored out of her mind.

Unlike him, who had grown used to this dreary routine.

"I totally do!" Rachel's eyes sparkled with excitement.

Elmer took her hand. "Then let's go."

The Howard family had been searching for Rachel for two weeks, but there was no sign of her.

The police had found the kidnappers' hideout.

Inside the warehouse, two other girls were still being held. The police had rescued them and were in the process of contacting their families.

However, the mastermind had escaped, and only a few minor players were caught.

The information from these underlings wasn't very helpful.

They said Rachel was just scouted by them. They didn't handle the selling; another group did. The more attractive girls were sold to various entertainment venues, while the prettiest ones were kept to be sold at higher prices to wealthy businessmen.

Those with average looks were sold cheaply to other countries.

At the police station.

The kidnappers confessed to their crimes but claimed ignorance about the whereabouts of the girls they had sold, including Rachel. No useful information could be extracted.

After a morning of interrogation, the lead detective stepped out.

"Mr. Howard, here are the statements. Unfortunately, they didn't reveal Rachel's whereabouts. We're still tracking the mastermind and expect to have news soon."

Still no news of Rachel. Adrian's eyes darkened.

Two weeks had passed.

He feared Rachel might have been taken out of the country.

That would be a real problem.

Once abroad, the search area would be too vast.

Rachel had been pampered at home. He worried about how she might be treated out there.

The officer said, "We've contacted the Emberfall City police and reviewed the port's surveillance footage. We saw the ship that took Beatrix away. It's produced by Titan Global Enterprises. We've reached out to them and have leads. We'll soon identify those involved and will need Beatrix to confirm."

Adrian nodded. "We'll fully cooperate."

Leaving the police station, Adrian picked up his phone and called Colby.

"Where's Jamie? Is he with you?"

Colby replied, "Adrian, I know you're worried and angry about Rachel's disappearance. Jamie's been searching non-stop for a week."

"I asked if Jamie is with you."

Colby sensed Adrian's tone. "Yeah, he's at the bar."

"Send me the address."

Adrian's phone buzzed with the incoming address. He drove off quickly.

It was around 3 PM.

The bar wasn't open, but it was owned by a friend of Colby's.

Jamie and Colby had been there since last night, with dozens of empty bottles on the table.

Jamie sat on the carpet, holding a bottle, tilting his head back to gulp down the liquor.

Colby rubbed his forehead. "Enough! Jamie, look at yourself!"

"Rachel's gone." Jamie's eyes were unfocused. "She's really gone. Maybe... maybe I'll never see her again."
